Maybe the Sportback would have sold a lot better if it looked like this:

Only 2,500! And no USA model!

If had offered them with a 5spd in 2004...Hell yes they could have sold a lot of them!!! I love my Sportback....but sometimes I wish it were a 5spd...and FI!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean... I was considering it until I learned it was A/T only.

2,500 is a ridiculous ammount for sure... but considering Mitsubishi is still very cautious with it's investments in new products, I think it's a test to see how the press and the market will react. If the feedback is good (and I think it will), they'll probably offer the option for the EVO X as soon as it's in the showrooms...

The reclining back seats are pretty cool. I wish some of the 2500 were coming to the U.S.

Sorry but I can't see what the Magnum would have in common with the EVO wagon... I can easily see how buyers would hesitate between the Subaru and the Mitsubishi (same problem as choosing between the EVO or STI), but the Magnum?!?! Two very different market segments for sure... after all, one is a bulky (if not to say fat) american muscle-car inspired design (which in my mind says it all) and the other is a performance oriented wagon competing with the likes of Volvo and BMW but with a price tag that's so much lower that it makes the european competition look like crooks.

Then again, isn't that the appeal of the EVO in the sedan market as well??? Remember that article that's been discussed two weeks ago: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/fe...cc_evogermany/)

BTW, how could I be 2 weeks late with this when I posted about it in this very forum about a month and a half ago??? I just wanted to let people know it was out today in show rooms in Japan (see the publication date of the related press release).

That's a good question... then again, in that market they probably have no choice but to offer an automatic version. It's semi-automatic anyway, so it might still retain a semblance of performance feel...

I would love to have that... how funny would it be to pull up in a wagon and blow away some yuppy in a sports car... could you imagine putting a little bit into it and having a 450 hp awd wagon...

LOL that's a mean looking wagon. It would be nice if they had some rear shots though.

The rear looks identical to the Ralliart Sportback rear, aka, Volvo.

Moving to future Evo models.

Yeah, I've been wondering what the back end looks like ever since they annouced the wagon a couple of months back... I hope it doesn't look like the Sportback, it wasn't the best lloking part of the car.

[EDIT: Damn you Otter for typing that fast! LOL ]

I had hoped it would stay in the RA forum if we talked about the Sportback connection often enough...

Probably handles much better than my Forester XT. If Mitisubishi had offered this when I bought my Subaru and if the performance was comparable, I'd be driving one of these. It's pretty funny when you get an S2000 pulling up next to you!
