Two very different market segments for sure... after all, one is a bulky (if not to say fat) american muscle-car inspired design (which in my mind says it all) and the other is a performance oriented wagon competing with the likes of Volvo and BMW but with a price tag that's so much lower that it makes the european competition look like crooks.-
The fact that the magnum is musce car inspired is why it sells, most people buying wagons do not get them for performance and I think the magnum looks much better than Mitsu wagons. Evos are such a nitch market that a wgaon would have been even harder to sell and it would not have competed with Volvos since they also are a totally different market since they are very family oriented and safety driven.

Mitsubishi Motors releases Lancer Evolution Wagon
- High-performance 4WD station wagon -

Lancer Evolution Wagon GT
Tokyo, September 7, 2005 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced that the Lancer Evolution Wagon would go on sale at affiliated dealerships throughout Japan today. Lancer Evolution Wagon marries the awesome dynamic performance of the Lancer Evolution IX high-performance 4WD sedan, which employs Mitsubishi's advanced and proprietary All Wheel Control (AWC) traction and stability enhancing technology, with the utility-enhancing luggage compartment of the Lancer Wagon. Tax inclusive price starts from 3,412,500 yen.

Lancer Evolution Wagon is the first station wagon model in the Lancer Evolution series. Derived from the Lancer Evolution IX sedan launched in March 2005, Lancer Evolution Wagon uses the body side panels and roof panel from the Lancer Wagon with reinforcements mainly focused on the rear end to create a lightweight and very stiff station wagon body. The powertrain mates a 2.0-liter intercooler-turbocharged engine to an electronically controlled 4WD driveline to realize unparalleled vehicle dynamics for a station wagon.

Lancer Evolution Wagon is offered in two grades. The GT uses a 6-speed manual transmission to deliver the ultimate in sporty driving pleasure. The 5-speed automatic transmission GT-A brings full-spectrum driving pleasure, combining the sporty performance of the GT with the convenience of an automatic. Lancer Evolution Wagon is to be produced in a limited run of 2,500 (GT and GT-A combined total), with production due to cease at the end of December this year.

Are they really selling that? Looks kinda funky. I dont think that would do to well in the US. WRX wagon actually looks better than that one. The rear is way too square for my taste, maybe if it sloped down a bit more.

The lancer wagon is hideous and this thing looks just like it. I know it's an evo people but come on, are you really serious about the thing looking good? It looks like the just chopped the rear, threw on a strip of lights and called it a day. It's all sexy at the front and then it just ends at the back.

Hideous. Stop lying to yourselves. You want a nice-looking wagon get an Outback or something.

I wouldn't say an Evo (of any generation) is a good-looking car in terms of beauty, but what it lacks in aesthetic appeal is more than made up for in its performance capabilities, which is probably influencing many opinions of the Evo wagon in a positive way. I don't think the Evo wagon is any more or less pretty than the sedan, but just the idea of an Evo wagon, especially one modded to 400+whp, is exciting in its craziness.

I think the wagon would look sleeker without the antenna on the roof.
