Just went to a local mitsu dealer and looked at the new wing on the IX.

Man is that thing hollow on top and sides!!

they had an viii next to it and it was like a rock when you knock on it. SOLID

any ideas on the detrimental effects of a weaker wing on a seemingly faster car. shoudnt it be vice versa?

 

Did you try opening the trunk? It is incredibly light now, totally effortless. I doubt mitsubishi hollowed out the wing without testing its impact on performance, my guess would be it is just as good now, and even better with the gurnery flap.

 

the VIII's wing was full carbon fiber the IX's is only carbon fiber on the across piece..

 

IX wing is ligther but not by much. I kinda like the 8 wing being fully carbon.

not proven yet, untill one is cut open or sanded down, i believe they changed the meterial, also the wing that the guy was talking about was off a IX show car for car shows. It was not a mass market car, it was slaped together for looks. But it is true that the IX trunk FEELS alot lighter then the VIII

 

I slightl improve performance, not enough to measure.

Mostly It's just Mitsu cutting corners

That will make the Evo VIII Tails more valuable

 

I really dont like the new IX wing... I got to see the IX in person finally and the our wing is definetly nicer looking and a more solid feeling piece. The IX wing actually wiggles if you try to move it around!

I hope my 05 wing maintains itself in A++ condition because I would hate to get a replacement wing and end up with one of these IX units.

 

^^agree. I personally like the 8 wing much better. More carbon fiber is exposed.

 

You guys are being way to paranoid over the wing on the IX. Its plenty strong and can handle any speed the evo can throw at it. Quit tapping the wing and go drive your Evo!

IMO side by side the new wing looks much cleaner. Im mid 30's so my tastes might be different but I like the painted sides and tinted tail lights etc.

 

I personally like the VIII wing better than the IX. Just looks more appealing.

 

CAN anyone photo chop and APR gtc200 wing onto a silver evo and paint (THE WING) the same color.

was at the dealer getting my wing on my 8 replaced and they were tryin to find the zero lift package thats on the nine for me and during the convo they told me that the 8 wing is 1400.00 dollars and the 9 cost 2300.00.
