Japan is done with the Evo 9!

Talked with a mitsu dealership in Japan and the Evo 9 is sold out and no more are being made. A total of 1500 Evo 9s were produced and all have been sold.

Japan has no plans for a 2007 model Evo 9, and is no longer advertised on their main website
http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/lineup/index.html

when it is listed again , it will be the evo 10
possibly this year, for sure by next year

You talked to a Mitsu dealer in Japan? Huh? 1500? They sold more than that in the US in the past 3 months...

For now, heres a sales report from June. 417 units for the Evo, which would almost a third of your quoted Evo production was sold in June, in te US alone.

Yeah , thats what he said. I thought the number was quite low 2, but then again, the market for the Evo in Japan is much different then it is here.

So the dealers in Japan actually know what they are talking about as opposed to the dealers here? Where does one obtain the number for a Japanese dealer? Better yet, how much does one have to care to pay for that long distance, and for what purpose?

So I guess your statement should read they made 1500 Evo IXs for Japan. Im sorry, but I just dont get why your passion now is to find every thread on EvoM and discount the fact there is a 2007 Evo in Japan (even going as far as to request the window sticker of an Aussie Evo to prove he doesnt actually know the model year of his own car). I guess everyone needs a purpose.

What car was tested then in the above link?

Can you copy and paste the info in that link? It appears you need a password to view it...

good point , take his statement for whatever you like. Either way, no more new evo 9s are for sale in Japanese dealerships.

I visited a mitsubishi dealership while on vacation in Japan. I bought some JDM parts to bring back and obtained a business card from a salesman.

I have a plan through my cell phone company where you pay a flat rate per month and then its like 15 cents a minute.

The purpose of the call to Japan was to find out if Mitsubishi had plans to make a 2007 Evo 9 to be sold in Japan. The answer was no plans.

I remember that I viewed the Aussie thread a few days ago, and now I am interested in figuring out why would Japan sell a 2007 Evo in another country and not in their own. Or is it that the Evo is sold in other countries as just the model name and does not pertain to a specific year. For example an Evo 9 can be bought in Australia in either 2006 / 2007, but its still just labeled as an Evo 9 model and not associated with a year like we do here.

As for the purpose remark- college is on winter break, and what better way to spend the time than on evom

I would guess it to be the Evolution 9 MR FQ360, which goes on sale in the UK in the next couple of weeks.

The general consensus on evom is that the reason we are not getting the 2007 Evo 9 is because it would not have side air bags which is now a requirement.

How is it then possible that the 2007 Lotis Elise will be sold in the US when it does not have side airbags?

First off, why didnt the article say it was a FQ360? Wouldnt that have to be tested in Europe, since MM of Japan has no real control over those cars? (They are modified in Europe) They tested that car in Japan. Something doesnt mesh here. Oh well, time will tell.

The reason the Elise can be sold is the same reason it was able to be sold in the past few years. Lotus got concessions because of low sales volume. The Elise does not meet bumper requirements of even 2 years ago, hell it doesnt even have true bumpers. I dont know the full details of the loopholes Lotus went through or the full legalization process, but I agree its odd that it does not have to meet the standards others do.

I think Lotus's exempt status for bumpers and such runs out this year though. My assumption is the Europa will then be legalized with the safety features that will allow it to be on US roads and sent over (a bit bigger of a car, more can be added).
