EVO X vs. EVO IX Photo Comparison thread
i think it looks great. it looks more up to date. i think it will get a lot more respect on the road from the other people that thinks the evo is just a teenager car, the new evo looks more mature and aggressive. i still think the concept looks a bit better, i will surely put my money back for one.
I bought my IX 2 months ago and I love it. The body style is more like what brought me to love this car in the first place. (EVO VII) I think that this radical of a change is a little too much.

Interior screams RICER!!!!!!!, maybe there will be a non-bling package, blacking most of it out. Exterior is awsome except for the nose. Wouldn't buy a first year toyota, let alone a mitsu....... Gonna be awfull hot on the back side of that motor with no airflow and now your blowing hot air right at the intake?? Maybe if I ever get tired of driving stick on a DD..............
the Evo X looks like the bastard son of Buck Rogers, and an Lexus IS350... Good job mitsubishi....NOTE to self...cash in ALL Mitsubishi stocks, just prior to the release of the X.
Thanks for a great comparison thread.
I bought my IX just nine months ago, after lusting for an Evo for years, so I'm not considering getting a X nor anything else for a long time; but, like everyone else, I do have some opinions that I can share.
Exterior: Overall, I like the IX better than the X, but neither one will win any beauty contests, nor should they. I prefer the IX's edgier looks and the fact that it has a cobbled-together rally-sedan image, similar to the Galant VR4. The X retains some of this, but it has a roofline more like a coupe, and it's generally smoother but strangely complicated at the same time. At some angles, the X looks good, but I don't really like the side view. That pedestrian-safety designed hood doesn't help the lines at all. I do prefer the X's wing, and I wonder how it would look on a IX. I'd get one if it let me check for police car lightbars in my rearview mirror more easily.
Interior: This isn't a major concern for me as a buyer, which is good since I own a IX! I like the IX's subdued color palette, and the X's dash makes my eyeballs hurt. I don't like the contrast between light and dark areas. The control arrangement is fine, and I like steering wheel controls whenever they're available. The steering wheel itself is too bulky in the center. Like others have said, the built-in CD receiver looks like it could be a pain to replace with an aftermarket DIN unit.
Performance: Well, this is the main issue for most people, as it should be. Looks are always secondary when we talk about Evos. I'm not too concerned about the X being x.xx better or faster than the IX. I haven't even scratched the surface in modifying the IX for higher performance.
The X is heavier, and I hope that the extra horsepower and Active Yaw Control can make up for the increased weight. We all want to see performance improve as evolution continues, but I think it'll be basically the same as a stock IX.
I like my IX's 6-speed, but if other gearbox alternatives help the X find a larger market so that the Evo survives so that we see the XI in 2-3 years, then so be it.
