What is CVT going to be like?
Its been confirmed in 3 magazines,SCC,Motor Trend, etc. The car is getting a Dual Clutch DSG-style gearbox. They aren't saying but it looks like it's a unique gearbox to the Evo. The mags have driven the proto which has the same gearbox as the production cars are slated to have.
The engineers told the editors that there will be zero-lag on upshifts and downshifts. The shifting algorythms are tied into SAWC,so the computer will make shifts based on cornering and braking also,so the shifts in auto mode will always be in the best interests of getting around the track quicker.

The DSG is on the Evo only and will most likely be prett damn good
Lancer DE, ES, GTS = 5speed manual or CVT with virtual 6 speed
Evo X = Twin clutch AMT or possibly(although no word yet) a manual gearbox option
On a side note, I personally believe that AMTs are going to be the inevitable way fo the future for most sports cars. More and more are going to them. I believe that maybe as soon as the X or new GTR, they will have time advantages on the track vs standard shift, but will always missing the added engagement and enjoyment of the standard.

I think that there is still confusion on CVT. It is a completely different type of transmission and is not offered on any sports cars. AMTs are offered on many cars and these are what we need to be talking about when it comes to sports cars...

CVT can't really handle HP from what I've read. It's my fault when I started this thread. I thought it was the name for Mitsu's AMT. From everything I've been reading, the EVO X will have (as mentioned earlier) most likely a dual-clutch trans like the DSG. SCC has another review of the EVO X in the April issue.

I'm afraid Mitsu is starting to repeat Japanese mistakes in the 90's when all of them ganged up on the old C4 Vette in sales and performance for the buck. In the end, the C5 vette took back its mantle by keeping it simple to a certain extent.
Big killer = too much techno-whizbang on the vehicle. Look at the 300z, 3KGT, Rx7, and Supra (lesser extent) with each passing year until its demise. Then again, the Evo is kindda in a market by itself.
Eventually, the Evo will price itself nearly as a C6 vette.

are you serious? we're talking about a mitsubishi here.. having a mitusbishi at 35Gs is already ridiculous and asking for alot. the only reason why people buy it cuz its just so fun to drive. i highly doubt the evo X will be priced around the mid 40s, if its the supra, or the skyline then yeah it makes sense, but evos and stis will never go over 40Gs
^^^^^^^
How much did the 3KGT started when it first came out before the last 2g VR4 rolled of the line? You have to add the dealer's markup too + all those local and state fees too.
"asking for alot. the only reason why people buy it cuz its just so fun to drive. "
The same like a joe smoe wanting to buy a Porsche GT3.
Look at history. Those 90's Japanese supercars beat the pants off the C4 vette. With each new year, more technology, weight, and luxury doomed those cars when the price wasn't cost effective in the American market. There will be a saturation. I just don't know where's the point on the Evo . . . maybe importing the FQ series at 60 or 80 grand?

There are already several Evo and STI models well over 40 in other countries such as the higher FQ models and the s204. I do not think it would be out of the question that a fully loaded X or the next one. will at least approach 40. That said, I doubt that you will not be able to get one for closer to what we are used to.
So basically in US the EVO or the STI is already cheaper than anywhere else and if they do raise the price a bit you'll still be paying less than for example anyone in Canada or UK, so tough luck guys, now live with it
