don't know where you've been but the best aftermarket navi unit is the eclipse avn series

and that is the exact same bare bone as the navi from lexus. second of all infiniti's navi is alot better than aftermarket navis. i say that cuz i have a fully loaded 2006 infiniti m35 and i have the eclipse avn 5435 on my project scion and i love the infiniti's navi.

The one thing that a factory unit can do over the others is integrate some diagnostic information into the interface!! Playback of a track run, output of all the sensors on the chasis, the first photos of concept X had a flip out screen that showed this type of info... how sweet it would be!

Well, after alot of thought I ended up getting a TomTom 910 3 days ago. Im happy with my decision. Being portable gives you the ability to connect it to the computer for updates/pics.etc, use in another car, & prevent any theft by having it out of the vehicle. The main reason I got this model is because of it being one of the only ones preloaded with a European map already. Also has a nice 20gig(12free) hard drive. When not in use, it's cycling through pictures in a slideshow that I've downloaded off my computer. The software is wonderful & works alot like iTunes' interface.
I would highly recommend this unit to anyone not ready to deal with the headaches & expenses of getting an in-dash Nav system.
If anyone has any questions about it, feel free to ask. Thanks alot for everyone's help & suggestions. I appreciate it.

Can you view DVD playback when the car is moving or only when the e-brake is up?

Does the Mitsu Navi speak street names? Like "Keep left on 680 North" or "Turn right on Main street." I have a Garmin which does this and it rocks.

I was at mitsubishi the other day, and I believe I saw this system on the outlander. Or maybe a different variation of it.

It you wanna pay $2300 for this unit, go for it. Or, you can go for the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 (or its competitors) or even the Z2 when they come out with it...but imo, aftermarket units have more features for the money. The Mitsu unit has 6 gig's for non-MP3 music...I think the Z1 has 10gigs for MP3 music?

Ok, I got a chance to test drive the new Lancer GTS today, I played around the nav for awhile, I must say, I'm impressed with the ease of use. The iDrive in my 335i was much more complicated than this one. The touchscreen is a plus and is much more convenient.

Sorry I didn't feel like reading the whole thread but the navi is around $1800-2000. Like the AvicZ1 from Pioneer.

I better start saving. haha

It would be really nice if there was an OEM nav unit for our cars.

It is linked to a speed sensor in the Lancers.
