Unofficially do you know when? I mean, is it going to be a 2009 or 2010 US model year?

Any word on if they're planning a Ralliart (or whatever it's gonna be called) version of the sportback for the US?

Hmmm... well in one sentence it says there will be a non-evo turbo motor offered and in another unrelated sentence it says there will be a sportback for 2009. I'm gonna read WAAAAY between the lines and delude myself into believing there will be a non-evo turbo sportback for 2009

I just hope my current ride can last that long...

Hmmmmmm, if this article is right then I see Mitsubishi is really in financial trouble, Galant has been the bread and butter car for them for so many generations and the current generation has been introduced as a 2004 model, 2009 should be a total redesging of the car, not just reskinning, same goes for Endeavor, otherwise I have a feeling that sales for those cars will continue to be stagnant.

I wonder what will come out of Mitsubishi Concept cX as I understand it is NOT a preview of the Lancer hatchback but something totally new. I am glad that Montero might resurface by 2011 as it is a real workhorse SUV with real off-roading credentials.

As far as the Raider goes, this is a case of Mitsubishi not investing enough in the marketing of this car as this is essentially a better looking version of Dodge Dakota with a better warranty and it sells like total crap where Dakota is a fairly successful truck.

And I see the Outlander will compete with the new CR-V with the 2.4l engine option, I wonder how much cheaper it will be than the current base 6 cylinder version and how much more fuel efficient as Outlander is a rather heavy vehicle for a 2.4l motor to handle.

I have absolutely drooled over the sportback concept since the first day I saw it. I'm partial to that design... my previous car was a '00 BMW M Coupe so there you go. My other car is a '02 WRX wagon and I still dig it's looks. I would buy a Evo X sportback in a heartbeat... I can't say the same for the new Subaru hatch design. The Suby wrx hatch will be a poor seller because it's just so bland looking and it fit's Subaru's new "ecological tree hugger make a deer smile" image that they are going for.

The Mitsubishi Sportback Concept is a bombshell. It's aggressive, sleek, and really expresses a sense of performance without looking like a boy racer car like the current Evo does. I sold my Evo IX already because I couldn't stand the image it portrayed any more... and the negative attention I got from cops and ricers. I was planning on selling the WRX wagon for a '00-'03 BMW E39 M5... but now my hopes are up for an Evo X Sportback.

TELL MITSUBISHI TO BRING IT! I'll buy it. It'll squash the Subaru WRX STI hatch sales into the ground.

Guess when my lease is up I may have to look elsewhere for a sporty wagon to replace my aging lancer sportback. to bad cause if they release this when they say they do, and it comes to canada, it would be right around when my lease expires. oh well.
Just get the new Outlander, although its not a wagon, they look sexy and offer lots more room than a wagon. I owned a Lancer ralliart before trading in for my outi and I have to tell you the handling and performance in the cross over is just as good or may be better than my lancer, weighing in at only 3600lbs for an SUV with 220hp is not bad.

I think Mistu would be silly to not sell the sportback in the exact same trims as the lancer. Why not? It the same machine just a different bodystyle. You can get a many cars in in sedan, liftback/hatch and wagon. This also lowers their total cost of development.

Then again I think they should have sold their Evo IX wagon (with side airbags) in the US as well.

Well judging from Mistu's Aug 29th press release, we won't be seeing the Sportback at Frankfurt as many news sources/rumor mills thought we would. Anybody have any insider info on when we will see it's unveiling?

According to the article below, Lancer hatchback will indeed make an appearance in Frankfurt, and it would make sense as Frankfurt is the last major European auto show of the year, and Europeans love hatchbacks.

EDIT: well, after re-reading and re-comprehending the article, it states that 5 door hatchback will join Lancer family lineup in 2008 but it doesn't specify that it will in fact be released at the 2007 Frankfurt show
