Mitsubishi Lancer Sportsback
Hey guys,
Just found an article about a possibility of Lancer Sportsback (hatchback) release at 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. The new Lancer in a hatchback form should look very interesting (at least according to the concept) and of course I wonder if this thing will ever be released in USA in regular and/or Evo form.

The concept looks pretty sexy in those picks u must say..... although my only complaint would be of how bulky it looks... it almost resembles a bug... but im sure it will grow on me. =)

looks awsome, but not functional enough
I live in Canada and have an 04 sportback ralliart. I love it. It provided me the best of both suv like space for lugging around things in the back such as my 2 rotties and performance when I wanted to 'play'. This new version though looking more sporty and up to date, looses tons of storage space in the hatch area that a proper wagon design has and therefor would be useless to people like me. Guess when my lease is up I may have to look elsewhere for a sporty wagon to replace my aging lancer sportback. to bad cause if they release this when they say they do, and it comes to canada, it would be right around when my lease expires. oh well.

The Concept Sportback (let me emphasize that: CONCEPT) looks really good. It really reminds me of the Concept X. I think, if it does get to production, it will look like a Lancer with a sport-back. Take a look at how the roofline blends into the rear and apply that to a lancer. That's more than likely how it'll be done. It will reduce development costs since it'll be a modification of an existing platform, and it will save money because Mitsu can share parts with the Lancer.
Now in that event, it wouldn't take much of a stretch of the imagination to see an Evo Sportback. And it'd be nearly a certainty if the STI/WRX Hatch sells well.

We got stiffed many times when it came to their Lancer wagons. Wouldn't be surprised if they do the same this time around, especially with the article mainly talking about how this would (once again) cater to the European market. With cars like the Magnum making the wagon (somewhat) appealing again, why not bring over a performance-Evo like wagon
