Edmunds Nurburgring video
I also saw that there was no radio, but my thought was that it was set-up for 2-din units, rather than the molded radio unit previously seen. To me, this means that mitsu is at least thinking about making it a bit after market friendly. But the different trim idea is a good point, i hope your right! sign me up for the RS model!!
the steering wheel is also missing all the cruise control buttons on the left side. and on the right side it's missing the 2 "start/stop" and "reset" buttons under the AWC switch. i wonder what those buttons were originally for? the switch seems to be for the ACD tarmac/gravel/snow settings but what were we supposed to start/stop and reset that we can't do in this car?
also things of note:
-the switch for the SST settings behind the stick was also always there. it was just un-named. in the new video it has a huge SST nameplate next to it
-no (boost?) gauge in center of dash as seen on proto-x
-the car is obviously production as it has windshield fluid sprayers next to the central duct on hood.
-is it just me or does the passenger side not have an airbag? is it required in japan?
-and what the hell does it say at 5:32 of the video? 9000 something at 300 Km/h??? 186 mph would be HELLA fast for an evo no?
somebody must know somebody who can translate the entire video. it looks to contain so much info....

There were rumors that the pod in the middle of the dashboard was a chronograph. So Start/Stop and Reset would work under that assumption.
That wast the Chronograph I mentioned above.
I'm not sure about requirements in Japan, but they have been hiding the passenger-side airbags better and better lately. My friend has a prius and the way that dashboard is designed it's tough to believe there's a passenger airbag, but there is.
If you look at the Tach and Speedo, you'll see those are just the highest markings. I don't know why it matters since the fuel-cutoff is well before 9K and I'll wager there's a speed limiter in the ECU. But I guess it matters to someone.
Maybe (wild thought here) they quoted those numbers as specs to indicate mod-ability? But that seems like a longshot.
I found out a friend of mine speaks a little Japanese. I sent him the video to see if he could get any info on the weight of the X. He's been through the video three times and says he hasn't heard anything.

ah everything you said makes perfect sense. i was secretly hoping the evo x redlined at 9000 and ran 190 mph tho
the chronograph idea would've been awesome but it looked really out of place smack in the middle of the dash.
i'm very disappointed that the new engine has seemingly the SAME performance. i mean besides the torque, the redline is the same, the hp peak and tq peak are at the same rpm. i mean is mitsu just trying to make the 4b11 as good as the 4g63 and not actually making it better?
of course this is all based on conservative jdm specs. but i doubt they'd lie about the redline and peak hp/tq rpm. maybe fuel cut ofo is at 8k
but it still sux that mitsu went conservative in stock form.
ideal for me would've been a redline of at least 8000 and a variable vane turbo putting out about 330 with little to no lag.

I hope the car sounds like the GT channel clip, which sounded ... dare I say it? ... more like an SRT-4.
Very mean sounding.

5-speeds always feel like you should have one more gear.
