I haven't follwed too closely with the evo x threads to see if anyone caught this but the advertised specs stated on the first clip in this series are 276 hp @ 6500 rpm and 311 ft-lb @ 3500 rpm

The GTi DSG can hold up to 350-400 WHP, that should give you a bit of insight of how much power a DSG tranny can hold. Lets hope the one on EVO X can hold more.

DSG in the Veryon holds 1000bhp... all depends on how strong the mfg wants to build it.

True, but the SST is more likely to resemble the VW's DSG rather than the one built for the Veyron.

I'm sure the collar functions the same as the button on regular Auto tranny. He might have lifted it just out of reflex since normal autos don't require you to push the button to go from N to D.

-ASC was noted as being "on" so i guess you can turn it "off" for some drifting malarkey?
I'm hoping the S-AWC can be turned off, but I'm not so sure... Either way, preliminate test drives of the drivetrain mules have said that the S-AWC is subtle until you are about to actually lose control. So you can still get the rear to step out.

-i dunno how it's programmed in the CVT version but it looks as if you can go from "drive" to "manual" shifting by just using the paddle shifters. but then how do you go back to "drive" from manual shifting? how do you do this on the 08 GTS CVT?
I'm not sure about the CVT, but if you look at the upshift paddle it's labeled +/OFF. It's possible you can just hold the upshift paddle and it'll go back to D.

-i can't make out when he upshifts, but is it possible that when in drive you can manually override the gear selection by using the paddles but then the software immediately goes back to drive? i see the guy downshifting but i can't make out if he's manually upshifting as well or if the software is upshifting for him and he's downshifting to go back into the upper rev range. anybody got better eyes? if there is such a way to do this then it's not reflected in the dash display that simply goes from D5 or D6 to 5 (manual) or 6 (manual).
He's definately upshifting, but it is possible the SST will shift for you if you let the revs get too high or too low. A lot of "manumatics" will do that.

hope there's a part 3
Me too!

Would Best Motoring get a car ahead of the official release? Do they have that kind of clout? If so, I'd love to see the whole thing. A faceoff with the IX would be cool, but do you think Mitsu would take the risk of Best Motoring liking the IX better? If they do allow a head-to-head, Mitsu must be either greasing BM's palms, or very sure of their new flagship.

Looked like a Neutral Drop to me.

.....standing by,
Tail-happy in an AWD car is good. Too easy to end up understeering. I've read in a few places that the Evo is becomming a "World Car" along with the Lancer. So we should see the same vehicle in every market.

*nod* Saw that too. But Japanese automakers have had a gentlemen's agreement that they won't advertise a car above 280ps/276hp. Since this video shows the X *AT* that limit and not a point more, I'm thinking they are underrating it. So don't take that number as gospel until it hits USDM shores.

One of the telling specs is the 311lb-ft of Torque. A 2.0L "square" engine with a 7000rpm redline is not likely to put out more peak TQ than peak HP. You tend to only see that in large displacement, low revving engines.

That's the truth. It's up to Mitsu's engineers to determien how much the SST can hold.

Since the X has already been flying around nurburgring I don't see much doubt that BM has already tested production models. BM is the auto review source in jp, bosses and execs appear in interviews regularly.
Also - of course Mitsu is sure of their flagship! They have been testing it against the IX since the very beginning back 3 years ago on their own ground, purposes to beat both its predecessor and competitor.

I'm confident that wasn't a neutral drop. He put it into D from P and then the camera cut away and we hear revving. He launched it with brakes or some launch control. It was just editing that made it seem like it was something else. That dude is a race driver like all the rest of the BM crew, he knows better.

from watching the video is it really that hard to understand what they are saying? the motion of the car and visuals pretty much sum up the whole story. it would be nice, but def not required.

as far as the tranny. I think they have overbuilt it, just like the engine. I think we dont give mitsubishi enough credit for actually keeping in mind the target audience. This car is pretty much the defintion of a modern tuner car. I dont think mitsubishi would make it unfriendly to mod, just because every previous generation has been modded. Anyone want to make any guesses for the power limit of the tranny? I beleive that it for it to be even half as reliable, it must hold at least 600 whp. but thats just the limit i would set if i were the engineer and testing the durability of parts.

Alot of people are expecting that this evo will not be easy or as responsive to mods, however i'm thinking just the other way. I think with bolt on and ecu programming, I would expect a 80 -100 whp increase. (using the GTI for reference in modern turbo tuning) Optimistically speaking, i think the engine it self will be capable of up to at least 500 whp (no internals) once again, this is just what i would do if i were a marketing analyst for mitsubishi. ( there ad for the evo comes to mind, "we dident just create a car, we created a religion") anyone remember that? kids in parking lots, modded evos, rally racing. etc etc. The way this car is going to be tuned will envovle alot more finnese. I'm doubtful we will see high-horsepower evos with this one, but with money anything is possible. I'm just excited for this car. cant wait to get one and start modding. Hope vishnu gets the tuning down asap, i'l be first in line.

The number is not important, i was talking about the sequence of events, when the evo and sti were introduced. I was just using it as a compartive figure to the sti horsepower number (also not known) to dramatically increase the effect. I dont know the actual horsepower number, but was tring to state, that subaru will launch the sti, two months after the evo with a slight increase in figures (hence the 320.5 for the sti) that all

You can override and shift manually using the paddles or the stick whenever you feel like up or down in whatever mode the car is in. You go back to "drive" from manual shifting if you reach the limiter or slow to a stop - by itself, you shouldn't have to tell it to do stuff if you forget to shift in manual mode. I have a feeling though in Supersport mode it will not auto shift-up when it reaches the rev limit and will just bounce; but in normal and sport it will shift-up.
this is what happens in the 08 GTS CVT i suppose? because for such a sporting car like the evo, it'd SUCK horrid ***** to have the software upshift for u when you wanna keep it at redline for whatever reason. of course the software should protect the car from over revving but if it's in full manual mode and the software intervenes too much then we have a major problem.

EDIT: ok at like 3:52 of the vid you can clearly see the car is redlined in 3rd gear and he manually upshifts to 4th. so my fears have been quelled. i didn't think mitsu was stupid enough to have the computer intervene too much in manual mode. at 4:26 he was really putting the SST to the test going from 6th to 3rd!!! looks like the SST WILL hold redline and NOT automatically upshift as far as i can tell, but then again he wasn't trying to destroy the car and didn't let it stay at redline very long so it's still inconclusive. even so, the SST is looking good
