Automated 6 speed gonna be hard to make big power?
No I watched a video that said it will have a 6 speed automated tranny or it will have the option to have a 6 speed manual.
No clutch pedal on the SST. The launch process is unknows. If it works like the VW DSG, then you launch it just like an Automatic. But there are other methods they could employ.
You can understand Japanese? Any other nuggets? If you heard correctly, then I'll take that video's word over any of the magazine articles so far. BM actually had their hands on the car and the execs in their studio. C&D and the other mags are just *guessing*.
The VW does it just like an automatic. One foot on each pedal. Rev the car up until it start to inch forward, then let go of the brake.
Someone in another thread seems to think they mentioned a 6-speed manual in the leaked videos.. We'll see.
As for the transmission being based on earlier designs.. *shrug* A manual is a manual.

Hey, I hate to bring up an ugly point, but the VW guys are having trouble tuning around the DSG gearbox. I don't know all of the details, but it sounds like some tuners are not able to get a good tune to work properly with the computer that controls the DSG gearbox in the VW's. In auto mode the GTI shifts earlier in the rev band as a result of making more torque. I believe it shifts at certain points of torque created by the engine. Granted this can be overridden by using the car in the DSG's manual mode, but nonetheless it could be problem in the Mitsu.
Cheers
Michael
and if not you still have a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty
Sorry, I must not have read your post carefully enough. I re-read it, and I'm not sure what I was replying to! However, I suspect that replacing the dual clutch in SST will essentially be the same thing that VW R32 tuners are already doing, since they are essentially the same thing.
Although it is all conjecture at this time, as far as I'm concerned jury is still out on all the semi auto/SMG type gearboxes.
Other than Ferraris, every car equipped with SMG type gearbox had issues with operation.
Some of the examples include upshifting not occuring immediately, no blipping of the throttle during downshifts, etc.
I just read an article about Mercedes Benz AMG63 Blacks Series in one of the car mags.
The author complained of both of those issues while testing this $130,000.00 car.
He wrote you have to shift several hundred rpm shy of the indicated redline due to the fact that the box would not upshift when he pushed/pulled the shift lever.
He also wrote the car did not have throttle blipping during downshifts.
I know this type of the transmission is the wave of the future.
I also know many have stated F1 cars have this feature so it must be good.
Personally, as a car enthusiat who enjoys driving, I like the feel of the manual.
To me, it is rewarding to perform perfect heel and toe with rev matching during downshifts.
It is also important to me I have the full control over when I shift or when I just want to hold on to the same gear.
I don't race my car every other weekend like some members here so saving precious second per lap isn't my priority.
Well, that's just me.
