This is going to happen with pretty much any new vehicle. Alot of times the design will grow on you over time. Personally, I like it already.
I'm sure there were 1st gen. Supra guys sitting around back in '93 *****ing about this weird looking new car with its 2JZ motor and look what happened with that. I bet some old 5.0 mustang guys were up in arms when the modular 4.6 came out and that seems to be working out pretty well for them.
All we can do at this point is wait and see. I'm pretty confident that mitsubishi has done their homework and we will be getting one bad *** new motor. Just have to wait for the aftermarket to build up. I'm looking for around 375-400 whp so I really hope the new drivetrain will be able to handle that.

I'm baffled by this attitude, too. Frankly, the EVOs have never been lookers. Inside and out they've always looked like cheap econoboxes. I understand their fantastic performance, read all the reviews, etc., but we're talking styling here. Personally, I think anyone who finds the previous EVOs better looking have issues. I've yet to hear any professional in the automotive industry, certainly any that have a styling bent, who has not said the EVO X is much better, and less cheap, looking.
And damn am I ever tired of hearing people whine about the loss of the antique engine. There's nothing wrong with aluminum block engines. The old 4G63 had to go eventually. If you thought it would last forever, you don't know much about the automotive industry.

I agree, styling was never the EVO's forte. I remember when I my EVO VIII, I had a roommate that drove an '04 cavalier and we unofficially polled a few attractive female friends. Almost every one of them said the cavalier was better looking!

I keep hearing about how the aluminum block won't be able to take any power.
As long as it is built properly (I'm pretty sure it is sleeved. not sure if it is open or closed decked) it should be just as strong as the outgoing 4G63. I've yet too hear anyone ***** about the aluminum block used on the new BMW 335i. These motors are already putting out quite a bit of power with no issues that I've heard of.The honda guys have been running aluminum blocks forever. With a closed deck and iron sleeves these things will take rediculous amounts of boost. We have too many pessimists in here!
Really,
This is all too simple...
The regular lancers NEEDED the facelift worst then a 40 Year Old Virgin needed to get laid. Of course nobody will argue this (unless that person perfers 600lb chicks with 5 teeth, a gigantic bald spot, and 8 fingers over a typical Hooters waitress) yet will talk about how the old Evo styling > the X.
Thus since the Lancers finally get needed facelift then it was only natural that the Evo X would reflect these changes. Looking between the Concept & Prototype X's and the base level Lancers it was only inevitable that the final X product would appear to be what it is. While not as cool looking as the concept (then again wah wah wah since this is always the case with concepts a'la the current generation's mustang) it does the job stylewise IMO as far as being an improvement in the right direction.
Say what you want but like threadstarter stated it actually LOOKS the part of a 30k car with the lower end Lancers not looking shabby themselves. In the end, for those that absolutely HATE the X... would you REALLY want the Evo X to look moreso like the last generation lancers instead of this current generation?

I really like the look of the X. The one thing that kind of bothers me about it and this might sound a little snobbish is they have made the lancer look so similar to it. I liked that the Evo used to look noticeably different than the lancer. Maybe in the flesh it will be a more noticeable difference than the pictures I've seen. IDK.
I don't blame them though. They are going to sell more lancers than Evo's so, if they can bite the evo's style to move more lancers it makes financial sense.

OMG that is awesome!!! Could somebody please photoshop that in white with black or graphite wheels! I really want to see what my car will look like!
