I don't think that Mitsubishi has any tricks up their sleeve. As the previous posts already stated, they use the press as a way of marketing.

I wouldn't be surprised that mention of the Evo pops up in magazines or newspapers where mention of it didn't belong there before. The "drivers" of the automotive journalism world may see the new Evo as diluted but other journalists may be happy with a cheaper alternative to an Audi or BMW. Mitsubishi is obviously after a larger market, and frankly, they don't care as much about their "hardcore" contingent.

I think that they will update the car in the middle of its life-cycle, possibly with more power, because if they're after luxury cars, they will be able to market it to the average Joe by bumping up horsepower (certainly not torque).

I could believe it, not that the Evo X is neccesarly slow, but I don't see why they would put 311lb/ft of torque in the brochure, but 300lb/ft in the prototype. I have a feeling that the actual production version will have some noticeable changes.

Indeed, it doesn't make sense, but then again, the brochure was leaked, so they could have changed something in the last second.

I hope engineers are still twinkering with the X, hopefully they can give it a little power bump and maybe make the steering feel more like the 9? I wouldn't hold my breath tho

Haha I doubt it though. I think another reason why they give car critiques a chance to test drive the prototype is so they can do some last minute tuning to the car.

I Think Emissions Had Something To Do With The Low Hp Numbers, Or The Engine Wouldn't Last Long With That Kind Of Power. But Think The X Is A More Complete Car Overall.

i agree, if the stupid tree hugers wouldn't convince the govt to get stricter emission it would of been much cheaper to stick the 4g63 into the evo 10 chasis instead of designing a new block from scratch. But if you look carefully there's no 07' Evo 9 sold in the states. These guys lower the emission standards like every 2-3 years

Based on the reviews out thus far, the talks are actually somewhat positive as far as the X being an overall better performer on a track. Plus, isn't this thing limited @ 5500 RPM when tested? Would think this can be pushed a bit further without serious risk of breaking the damn thing.

Not to say I'm 100% convinced that Mitsu would pull a complete surprise at least not on purpose, but I'm sure they're reading the reviews just as we are & maybe considering making some small changes that could make a big difference on what hits the dealerships.

^^^ Agreed. You'd think everyone was reading something I haven't seen based on these articles. Not one of them was a bad review. To the contrary, everyone liked the X. Yes, they admit it wasn't as "fun" as the IX, but the EVO has matured making it a better rounded car.

As far as something up their sleeves, well the part about still tweaking some things in the ecu could be the difference. The car's aren't out yet, so they could be using this as last minute tweaks.
