SST. I have a manual in my track car, so that's taken care of. and the more I read about dual clutch technology being pushed forward by Ferrari & Audi (to name a few) the more I think the traditional manual transmission is going to soon go the way of the dinosaur.

A human can't shift as quickly with a manual transmission vs. a DSG, and that's assuming you don't miss shift, and we all know we do that....

plus, you get the benefits of an automatic, which is great for me as the X will be my daily driver.

Thats how I feel when I was watching one of the reviews on here after they talked about the SST evo they showed the GSR with the 5 spd and it already felt out of date!

I've been debating which tranny to get ever since i put my deposit down. Of course, the 5spd will be more engaging and probably more fun to drive but, the SST will probably be faster and more conducive to daily-driving.

I'm really leaning towards the SST but, I'm concerned with how well the transmission will handle power, say 350-400awhp?

I pretty much don't know much about any of those. Can anyone explain please?

that is the big question. we know DSG technology can handle that much power (Audi R8) but does the Mitsi DSG stack up against the Audi DSG?

anyone know if the 2008 Audi RS6 is using a DSG?

looking at the technology and being familiar with transmission technology (I"ve rebuilt 2 in the past 15 months), I don't see why DSGs can't/won't/shouldn't be every bit as strong as traditional manual transmissions, but this of course is a statment of generality, and we won't know much about the Mitsi TTS until some of the tuner folks rip into them...

Couple of questions about the dual clutch tranny

1 - do they weight more / less compared to standard 5/6 speed?

2 - whats the power handling like?

3 - Do they act like an auto normally? (Ie: Can I put a remote start on it without worrying)

4 - drivetrain loss compared to normal tranny?

The Bugatti Veyron uses a DSG transmission, so that says that DSG type transmissions have potential for strength. Nobody can really say how strong the SST will be until someone tries to test it's limits or when Mitsu gives us the specs for SST.

As for me, I will be getting SST.

6 Speed semi auto for me. Every reviewer seems to be absolutely amazed by it, and they are all lovers of manual transmissions. Some of them even admitted they would get the 6 speed. Its funny how people say these aren't true performance trannies when F1 drivers use the same system...

Stupid question but how would you launch with this SST system? I mean compared to before? Is it safe?

If you buy the car to DD and not really mod it and get on it.. SST is for you..

If you plan to try to Evolve it.. then get the 5MT.. mark my words.. you wont regret it.. its stronger and has a taller 5th gear.. in fact am waiting for someone to successfully swap a X 5spd into a IX..
