neither.

i'll be getting a 6spd manual tranny with the 08 STi.

it's freaking 2008 and Mitsu still can't pull their head out of their *** and put a good 6spd manual unit in the Evo. epic fail.

The DSG on the VW's gets weak after a couple of laps on the track. IT slows down, shifts whenever it feels like it. It seems like it cannot take longer periods of high engine speeds and lots of shifting.

I would go with the 5mt, because it is a proven alternative and I've not been happy with any of the off the shelf DSG systems, except of course on cars that cost above 100k...

The fun factor is probably the most important part for any Evo driver, at least when he really wants it. It is obvious though, that the EVo X is geared towards a little older clients and thus the SST will prolly be the most common tranny to be found.

Now, if the 5mt would shift like the Civic Type R, then I think everyone would opt for the manual, but since its not the case.

On another note, you cannot compare a F1 tranny to a DSG system.
Basic system is the same, but so is a non-synchronized 4spd versus a modern 6 speed.

If Mistubishi make the mistake of releasing an SST that hasnt been tested for driving 50 miles a day @ 500rpm from redline in every gear for 5 years, but more for cruising auto style, they have just made an epic mistake. They might as well sell their company to Subaru.

Having said that, I have confidence they are going to produce an SST that can be hammered. But just to be safe im getting a 24 month lease first. Im not getting stuck with trying to sell a piece of crap, when people find out that infact it is dud.

If its a bad initial release, they will never sell SST no matter how much they refine it. *NOBODY LIKE CHANGE* The few that were curious will be turned off very quickly if its bad, and the rest will be like, "...ya! thats why I bought a manual...be it 5-spd!"

cheers folks

Manual tranny - always.

Auto/smg/tip etc kills the fun of driving.
