Top gear: X first drive
another thing is that the X is said to be slower by 0.2 secs in the 1/4 mile yet is 2 secs faster around the mitsu proving grounds track. seems like a good tradeoff no?back on topic: another AWESOME review by a euro journalist. it seems only americans dislike the x. seriously, what's up with that? i'm very eager to see clarkson's review cuz he's NOT gun shy when it comes to calling cars rubbish.
also remember the UK is gonna get the FQ versions so even if the stig sets the best time ever on their course the USDM evo x will be FAR from that car stock. either way top gear doesn't really talk about tuned cars and tunability, etc.
I would hardly call myself a IX fanboy madfast. I am an Evo fanboy, period. IX, X, whatever... I certainly do not hate the X at all. As far as the "facts" in the numbers, I am merely repeating what I've read and am in no way claiming validity or pretending to be some expert. I would hope that the X is better than the IX, otherwise the Evo will loose it's namesake and nobody wants that.
i was a Evo 9 guy but after seeing all the new photos of the white Evo X and the Ralliart version, I've been converted! The front middle bumper looks sweet when it's painted black instead of silver in the initial, red Evo X photos.
The car you see here develops around 276bhp (at 7,000rpm) and 311lb ft of torque (at 3,500rpm), a healthy baseline from which the real madness can begin.
If your last Evo experience happened to be in a car with 400bhp, then the new one clearly doesn't accelerate quite as explosively. But it's hardly tame. In fact - whisper it - it feels about optimum.

So the X will have a little less HP, a little more weight; but will have more torque. Couple that with a stiffer chassis, and I think it will be a tad bit better than the IX overall--given that the engine will live up to the previous one in terms of its response to mods and long term durability.
I still won't buy the first run...or perhaps not even the second run. When the vehicle has gone through a couple revisions and manufacturing defect corrections--It will be time. I've learned never to buy the first year of a redesign (if you can resist it).

keep in mind that the 9 had the older hp ratings while the X has the newer SAE (more stringent) hp ratings

, its going to make big powa!!
