Mitsu in 2016
They're becoming unrealistic IMO.. So what if the car manufacturer doesn't meet that standard. I'm sure all that's involved is a fine or something to uncle sam and they'll be free to sell their gas guzzlers to all of the evil anti-earth people in America..
I think if all of the car companies are going to be spending millions and billions on developing more fuel efficient vehicles why don't they just stick with where they are now and require that all of that R&D money that they'd be focusing on developing the next toaster shaped ****-box that gets 30mpg and focus it on building an alternative fuel vehicle.. electric, hydrogen, whatever..
And the whole fuel efficiency thing brings up another argument that I've had.. Wouldn't it make sense to make a car aerodynamic if you're wanting it to get good gas mileage? That'd probably help sell them too if they looked sleek and aerodynamic..
Cars like this make me want to stand outside with aerosol cans all day long for the rest of my life..

I'm betting that the Evolutions will be able to get 35 MPG, or very close to it. I mean, take a look at the upcoming EcoBoost V6 from Ford (ummm...Taurus SHO, I think). It'll pump out 355 HP and around 25mpg Highway.
With a little fine-tuning, I bet the Japs will be able to make a 2.0Litre turbo (or twin turbo) that'll keep the Evolutions alive.
2016 is going to be an interesting year.

Well that's the idea. They bring over the i and the Colt and boom, there you go. A 17/25 Evo doesn't hurt so bad. Plus Mitsu doesn't sell that many cars, so their target under CAFE isn't as tough a bogey to meet as say, Ford's.

I think the DI will still be good. I think that people would eventually pick up on making some upgrades. I have heard about upgrades for the new SST and personally I actually think it happened kinda fast!
There are a lot of cars that are going to DI and for some good reasons. I know that almost all diesels are CRDI now. I really do think that the DI will help them out with just a little bit of work. The new 16X from Mazda is DI and revvs high. Lol but that is an unfair comparison.
