I just test drove a friend's stock MR for about 5 miles, this is the 280 PS version, not the MR 320 like they have in the UK. I currently own a pretty much stock 8 GSR.
The MR is just going to be faster around the track. The suspension setup and the revised SAYC allows the car to hold the line better, and the SAYC seems to be biased towards feed forward, allowing me to have liftoff oversteer very easily as compared to my car. One minor complaint is that there is a slight lag compared to my car when off-boost. But when it goes, it goes.... current peak boost is 1.7 bar (24.7 psi)! This car just had its first servicing at 600 miles BTW.

I'm sure the lag is due to the different turbo setup, it's the delivery that gave me a pleasant surprise. Now more than ever, it feels like a smooth big block engine with huge torque when you're on boost. The ride is still very firm, no doubt about it. However on street driving it is apparent that the body roll has been reduced. I'm also happy at the improvements they've made to the SAYC as well; it's really hard to get it to understeer unless you're trying to rubbish the laws of physics which as we all know, just isn't going to happen. But if it could, you would swear this is the car to do it with... maybe Evo 12?
There just isn't any way a stock JDM 8 is going to beat this car on track given drivers of equal ability.
Alas, good as it is, I wouldn't upgrade to it from my JDM 8, mostly due to financial reasons, but it's a damn good car. I can only provide anecdotal evidence but the car has been selling well locally, winning quite a number of converts who are used to more expensive and exotic cars. Seems like the latest rumors about Mitsu's demise are not affecting the purchase decision in the slightest.
