thoughts on 05 evo from a guy who owns 03 evo...

well as i came to understand it, all 05 evos are gonna come with e-acd and front helical limited slip differential (https://www.evolutionm.net/features/newsitem/76), more hp, blah blah blah...right? I know many of us 03 evo owners are getting jealous of people planning to buy 05 versions and some even thinking about trading in their 03 evos for MR or just 05...what I dont understand is...why? come on, most of us bought the car cuz its EVO right? Of course, the car's going to get better and better every year (hence the car name EVOLUTION)...but that won't change the fact that your 03 evo is still gonna kick major ***. I admit, i wouldn't mind owning mr or 05, but honestly...how many of us are really skilled enough to notice the difference of e-acd or as matter of fact actually use it? Not only that, just be happy that you're blessed for just owning an evo...you have no idea how many people would just die to get even "only" a 03 version...

i guess what im trying to say is, learn to love your baby and it will treat you well in return...

I would never trade in my Evo for a 05 or a MR. I have done way to much work to my Evo. On the other hand I've heard that the acd is just awesome. I would love to test drive one to see the difference myself. I'm happy no mater what. I just keep modding to make the car feel better.

agreed, plus the money lost in a trade-in for a new Evo would be pretty heavy...not worth the differences in the cars....Evo is a good car, any Evo.

For most of us with the 03, it will be cheaper putting in a limited slip diff in the front (at the time of a clutch change) than to lose all that money in the trade for an 05.

The six speed and limited slip front axel are great but you can retro fit...or just drive your 03 until you wear it out then get an Evo 9 or something.. .. my kid drives a car no more than 3 years so he leases them (fixed cost, no worry about trade in or sales, tax advantages).. come on guys there are quite a few ways to do things without giving up your butt in depreciation. Run the numbers and remember we live in an ever changing world.

SCCA Classing

Does anyone have a clue as to where the 05 and/or MR are going to be classed for autocrossing? I would have a hard time believing they could be in the same AS and ESP classes as the 03. The ACD and FLSD will make a big difference for autocrossing. The weight differences don't hurt either.

you can't retrofit 6speed, it sits longer in the cabin and you'd have to cut the console like they did in the mr test car. you can't buy acd and put it on, well you could... but you don't want to. i suppose you can always shave pounds to match the mr but that doesn't apply too much to just an 05. honestly though, an evo is an evo, hand one to rod millen with or without acd, front helical type lsd ect ect and he'll run a rally with it and do well. hand it to someone experienced on the track and you can impress privateers with full racing budgets and exotic cars (go to vishnu and check out their lil touring saga). there's no need to trade in yer car, i mean there's only one instance i know of where the next year model car was inferrior to the previous year and that's when toyota shaved 200 off the tach on the celica gts cuz people kept blowing their motors. you guys who got 03's and 04's paid to make me jealous for a year or two. so be happy with that! ti's definitely something worth bragging about.

p.s. if you really wanna get a feel for acd, try an sti out they have dccd which is the same.

The transmission does not come anywhere near the cabin, it's longitudinal next to the motor. The shifter and it's linkage to the tranny does not mean it won't fit.
