it's 10.8 kg lighter than the standard VIII, but the US VIII was heavier I think, so it'll be an even bigger weight loss for the US

6 speed.
Bigger turbo (more torque)
bilsten struts (better handling)
lighweight BBS wheels
different interior

The car is sweet but it is 10-12K more than a used EVO.

The US one was heavier because of the bumper beams - but the car itself is no heavier than the one in Japan.

No the US is a bit heavier than the JDMs even with the different measuring standards taken into account. In the US the MR will not be much lighter than the US VIII. Since the 6-speed and ACD/SAYC add some weight. So the diff will be less than 22 lbs.

Any performance data between the US Evo and the JDM Evo 8 or MR? I would like to see an evaluation between the US Evo and the JDM Evo 8 (and/or the MR). I have searched this borad but came up short.

1 kg = 2.2 lbs

10.8 kg * 2.2 lbs/kg = 23.76 lbs

There will be more discrepancy between fat and skinny drivers.

what the hell were these mags talking about triple digit weight loss then...?

i'd have to think they lost at least 25 pounds from the aluminum roof alone...? no...?

They were comparing Japan's standard of "dry curb weight" (no gas, fluids, etc) vs the US's standard of "wet curb weight" (full tank, fluids, etc). All that stuff easily adds up. I know the weight numbers have been posted a billion times in other threads, so I'm too lazy to go look for them.

But in the end, when you add up the lighter stuff, you still gotta add weight back in for ACD/6 speed/Bilsteins, so it really only comes up to about 20-30 lbs at the most... (and some of that weight savings assumes you buy the optional BBS rims - but I'm guessing the BBS rims will be standard here in the US).

I believe that the roof shaves 6-7 lbs.
