MR edition in newest Car & Drivers also.

i saw it at barnes and noble, but didn't buy it.... they said it weighed slightly more than the previous evo they tested....

due to the added weight of the front LSD & electric adj. diffs weighing more than the savings in susp, wheels and roof.?

anyway... i think it did slightly better at the skidpad and ran a 13.4 Qtr at 104mph..... (my 100% stock 03 evo ran a 13.4@102mph with my crappy driving). I don't remember any of the other numbers other than them hinting at $35k MSRP price.....blaaaa

Once my mag shows up in the mail I can scan it if someone else hasn't by then... it was only a 2 page article.....

Anyone pissed about the MR not being any quicker than a stock 03? They should have at least changed the gearing to make it faster.??

It's 2 seconds faster around streets of willow.

I think that's plenty faster.

Evo are not made for the straight line stock, it's all aobut the track times ala willow springs. If you bought the Evo for 1/4 mile racing its probaly they wrong choice for one.

The 1/4 miles and 0-60 are not the ultimate performance tests. Also, depending on where it was tested, elevation could've added a few tenths back onto the 1/4 mile. Also remember that the MR can't launch higher than 5,000 rpm now.

I'm not buying it for a drag car. I'm buying it for road racing, and if it happens to drag well, then so be it.

Even then, I don't consider low 13's @ 104 to be slow. Most people would kill for that kind of performance.

my guess is they are trying to keep idiots from running around on the street doing tons of 6k rpm clutch drops then coming in demanding that they cover it under warranty

probably something along the lines of:

engr #1 "we gotta do something to keep these people from sidestepping the clutch at 7000 rpm, breaking the trans, and then crying about it all over the internet".
engr #2 "how about, we put in an artificial 5000 rpm redline with the clutch in, that would discourage it"
engr #1 "yeah, that will proably work"

My thoughts exactly, and I don't blame them.

Seriously, for autocross, they don't let you launch that hard, and even in Solo I, I don't think it'll even affect times that much.

And from what I've seen, there isn't anyone here that hasn't changed something on their Evolution. I wouldn't be surprised if these piggy-back and re-flashed ECU's will either eliminate the soft-limiter, or allow you to raise/lower it.

Give Vishnu, Dynoflash, and the rest of the tuners a few months.

MisterSpoot, I see you asked Vishnu about their plans for the MR..

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not. I haven't spent much time underneath an Evo. I was wondering if the ACD or anything else being added to the 05s will effect the routing of the aftermarket exhausts out there. Will these need to be revised? Thanks

^ I'm not going to know until I have the car up on jackstands.

I'm guessing Shiv et al will be able to answer this one better than I, considering they already provide a few aftermarket units. Might want to e-mail the guys at BTR Prep about it, since they've been rally-prepping Evolutions for a looooong time.

that 2 seconds around willow springs needs to be on the same day with the 2 cars there at the same time..... track conditions change dramatically from day to day...plus that may be with different drivers as well.

it would be nice to see a Evo showdown..... Regular vs RSs vs MR.... all by the same driver, same time, etc....

I know it is not 100% considered a drag car, but R&T quoted 12.9@107mph in that "speed" magazine...which i think was the JDM MR...that is a good bit faster than the 13.4 @102mph!
