Disconnect UTEC from ECU before upgrading to 1.7? (9v Battery?)

Hi all,

Per Pete from TurboXS's comments, we need to unhook our UTECs from the ECU to ensure that we get a trouble-free flash upgrade of our software from our laptops, and to avoid throwing a CEL afterwards.

My question is, do we need to use the little 9v battery thing to power the UTEC whilie it is unhooked from the ECU, or will it flash properly anyway?

I posted this in the P0008 CEL thread but wanted to bump up here to get an answer to this important question.

Thanks,
Adam

Actually if the ECU wiring is disconnected, you will have to flash with the battery..

and regardless of if its installed in the car, or not.. you should be using the battery to do the flash so it doesnt get the power interrupted..

OK, thanks Jack. I didn't know if this code was actually an ECU problem that would have impact or just a meaningless blip that could be cleared with an OBDII tool (I still haven't forked out the $100 plus for that Actron thing).

Sounds like I should be using the 9v no matter what, which I will do. Sounds like everyone should be doing the same!

Best,
Adam
