Misfire problem

For some reason I'm getting what seems to be misfire in the higher rpms on Map 0. I just took out the UTEC and did a few WOT runs, no misfire. Is there maybe something in the parameters that could be causing this?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If its on 0 its passing through.. It may be an ignition misfire though, remember installing the UTEC places a device between the ECU and the Engine, so its possible the signal in passthrough isn't as "Strong" so your getting slight misfires..

Try checking and changing your plugs if they have over 10k on them.

The UTEC does intercept the signals so they have some minor impact on the ECU even in passthrough, HOWEVER after you drive the car for a few days it adjusts.

Don't know what mods you have, but I"m assuming the basic downpipe/exhaust/intake mods.

Try to turn off Open Loop Fueling and see if it still misses. Running Map0 should be bypassing everything that UTEC alter... and you might want to try to reflash teh firmware into your UTEC.

Mods: TBE w/ TP, HKS drop in filter, AMS crank pulley.

The plugs were changed about 1,000 miles ago.

I installed the UTEC about two weeks ago and finally just took it out today because I got tired of not being able to go WOT. Perhaps I'll try reflashing the UTEC with the 1.7 firmware again or turning off OLF and see what happens.

I still don't understand why the car would run any differently with the UTEC on Map 0 than just running the ECU by itself if its supposed to be a full passthrough. If the UTEC still has an impact even on Map 0, two weeks should have been more than enough time for it to adjust. The car runs strong with out the UTEC installed. =/

Thanks for the help guys

I do get fuel cut on cool days with the car in passthrough.. With my mods (which are basically a TBE, Intake, etc..) I actually can't drive the car under boost with the car in MAP0 but it completely goes away when I use one of my tuned maps...

DId you install the ABC too? Although there could be something wrong with the UTEC, It may just be something like boost spike, resulting in fuel cut or whatnot..

The EASIEST thing would be to log the data when its happening with the UTEC.. It could be very revealing.. Also see what sort of boost your getting, see if its spiking any higher with the UTEC installed then without..

Just to be clear. You do not have a re-flashed ECU right? Also when you say misfire, you mean misfire not knock right? No flashing SES light right?

Thats a good point.. It could be something other than a misfire.. Like I said earlier, your best bet is to log your data to see what is happening.

I could understand the reasoning for this, but my car doesn't have any problems at all with just the ECU by itself.

It's definetely not knock (no CEL flash or pings). It kinda sounds like a poof of air when it's cutting out.

I still had this same problem with and without the ABC installed. The ABC is currently installed right now, but with the UTEC removed.

The ECU is reflashed, but for a stock setup with boost cut removal. I actually had a UTEC before, but I had to sell it for emergency money. I was running the same mods before (including the reflash) and had zero problems.. although I could not run the staged maps w/o knock.

When I have some time later tonight, I'll reinstall the UTEC and perform a few 3rd gear logs.

Have you double checked with the UTEC dashboard that your car is actually running in MAP O. The switch on my UTEC in finicky and sometime the MAP position on the switch does not match the map shown on the UTEC dashboard. Sometimes it requires a little jiggle to seat in the correct position.

I was thinking the same thing last time I had it hooked up to a laptop, so I verified it in the Dashboard and it did show 0.

Well, for the moment I'm a bit stumped.. I'll have to log some data in passthrough on my car and see if I get a similar thing..

Once you get it back on, log the data when it happens, it'll probably be more helpful for the moment.

Here's a datalog from tonight on Map 0. Boost spiked to 1.4 and settled to 1.2-1.3. At the time of misfiring, the boost was at 1.2-1.3.

your maf readings are extremely low.. thats about all I see there, its possible the misfire is due to a lean condition.

BTW at around 5200rpm the ECU pulled about 2 degrees of timing.. thats probably what your feeling..

FWIW I definitely think you should reflash the UTEC with v1.7 firmware.. it will clear all the changed parameters and maps just in case..
