Question looking for input

I've done a bit of reading up on the UTEC, and I'm hoping for a bit more specific input based on what I'm trying to accomplish.

Background - My Evo is my daily driver, and I've waited to get a little over 10K miles on to mod (make sure nothing is really wrong with the car.) Given that this is a daily driver, I do attend track events a few times a year (not drag, road racing stuff...SCCA background and all that jazz.) I'm interested in putting down a solid 300whp up here in CO, and I don't THINK (this might change, hence the caps) I'm interested in much, if any, more than that.

With that said, there are a couple things I really like about a UTEC over something like a SAFC-II, and a couple things I like, but might not need. I am interested in having multiple settings, so the adjustable maps is a HUGE benefit, rather than manually adjusting settings. I would actually probably have 3 if I got the UTEC (91 for safe travel here, 93 which I usually run, and race map for when I'm at the track and can keep 100+ in the car.) Other than that, given that I'm not going for a super hot setup, will there be a big benefit in having a UTEC? Or will this just allow me to have more control over the settings, logging, and some advanced features I might not need (and any guess at increase in hp from the additional control isn't a bad piece of input here.) By the way, the current plan is a 3" TBE, intake, MBC, and some type of A/F or piggyback.

I know that much of this has probably been covered, but it seems kinda spread out and if there is any input that could be put in simple terms here, I'd greatly appreciate it. If I missed a post that is this exact topic, please post a link and tell me to get better at searching (although I've done searches here and in the SAFC board for some info.)

Thanks in advance.

The Utec will more acurately tune your fuel afrs. The other piggybacks just pull or add fuel at rpms. The Utec uses load sites.
If you add the Map sensor, it will be even smoother, along with being able to run closed loop boost control, (no need for MBC).
The 5 map selection is great. I have 3 working maps now; 1- 91 oct, 2-race gas, 3-91 oct w/ water injection. I may do a race gas with water inj, not sure if it's worth it.
The datalogging is awesome, especially with the UCC software.
If you get a Utec with base tuner and Map sensor you are a one-man tuner shop.

Turboxs has there own, already wired for $97. Their calibration numbers are pretty close to what I calculated.

So, from what I gather, you're basically saying that on the A/F side, I'll have more control. And with a small add-on, I can do a pretty solid tune myself. Again, I've read up a bit here, and I've seen a lot of tuning info (some seems greek as I haven't seen much of the interface in use...but I'm willing to accept that it's true.)

Part of this, at least for me, is accepting a $500+ upgrade when I'm really not looking to make a crazy fast car (from the HP standpoint anyway.) The multiple maps get me most of the way there, but I'm just looking for a little other justification as well. The additional control is definitely a plus, and I'm glad to hear that is true (although I did assume it to some degree.)

Any other takers on input? As I like to learn as much as I can before diving in (especially with my daily driver), I'm always eager to learn more. And to post another comparison, how would you compare this to the XEDE? I don't really like the 2 maps that the XEDE limits you to (at least that what I've gathered without uploading new maps), but as they are very similar in price, I'd be curious to know of any real world comparisons people here have (real world doesn't necessarily mean dyno graphs or anything, just input if you used one the flipped to the other.)

Thanks again for any input.

just saw that MJ has a comparison somewhere...I'll be searching for it, so kinda skip that part if you find it's covered in his post (as it probably is since MJ seems to have a wealth of information on this board.)

OK, although I'm still looking for input, I've found plenty on the XEDE vs. UTEC. The only thing I wouldn't mind (as I haven't seen this yet) is any info from somebody that went from one to the other...besides that, pay no attention to that section (the only reason I'm not deleting it is on the off chance somebody has swapped one way or the other and has their feelings after using both.

Utec

As you see from my signature I have 2 Evos, one with Utec and the other AEM EMS. MY tuner Quantum likes the EMS better because it is more precise and can be tuned to do more things. With it I have to switch the maps using my lap top so it is not as easy as the Utec in that regard. The UTec is significantly cheaper. A huge plus in Cincinnati is that we have an OBD II emission check and the Utec retains the OBD II but the EMS does not. Unless you are seriously into tuning or have big mods I would stick with the Utec.
