280's are fine for the stock turbo, you will just get more out of the larger turbo's.

Both just about suck the breath out of the turbo at high RPM. I pull on a 280 cammed '03 w/ gears, I use 272's with stock gears. Much is in the tuning also. Personally I CHOSE the 272's over the 280s as they we released before I installed mine. For upgraded turbo, you will see the gains on the 280's. Check your mod timeframe. Cams are a non-wear item and in high demand. Worse case scenario is you can upgrade again if you get a turbo and have a minimal loss if any.

272'sa have gone 9's, they are in teh Turbo Trix car, they are fine. I am sure on a race car 280's will make more WHP but on the street WITH a stock turbo HKS 264-272-280's will make the WHP and have different powerbands, each getting peakier then the last. I went 272-272 dead center and more then enough for a 50 Trim I plan on.

Gona run a GT35R on a built block? go for the 280's.

Interesting opinions. Makes me look like I wasted a ton of time over in my Dyno testing section.

I have the 272s but a very respected tuner I know said he prefers 264s. He builds circuit cars but does do some drag machines too.

Which is better between the 272s and 264s for 1/4 mile runs? Come with facts or stay quiet.

not quite sure how old this thread is but heres my "facts"
full race ur sacraficing(?) top end power with bigger cam shafts but ur low end torque will be improved no matter if ur running a bigger turbo or not like the guys above said yes it will be a better out-put with a bigger turbo (obviously) also the bigger the cam the worse ur idle will be i dont know about anyone else but i sacraficed (?) power for overall pleasure of the parts...i went with 264's the idle is much smoother compared to the 272s n the 280s r strictly racing i wouldnt want to daily drive those, but thats my opinion. n also the 264s i feel just about all through my powerband then again i hav never installed 272s into my car but my friends that have claim mostly low-end torque. they also have very aggressive tunes mine is fairly modest so that may also be a reason for some of the differences.

i got 280's on my 05 mr and starting from 3000 to 5000 it pulls hard. my ecu isn't even tuned running 10.0 a/f.

the only downside is a rougher idle (sounds and feels like a motorcycle), increased vibration throughout the passenger compartment that creates annoying squeeks, and increased exhaust smell from a stand still.

I don't agree. With the right tune in the car the 280's work fine.
