MAP 1 Knock

I was on the freeway the other day and I let my buddy drive while I logged. I am just getting started w/ the UTEC and he was on the on ramp in 4th pulling pretty hard and the CEL started flashing, there was only a slight loss of power that I could detect. I hadn't started logging yet so I don't know for sure if it was even a knock. Will the CEL flash if there is a misfire as well? and does anybody know of any good UTEC tuners in the St. Louis area?

That does sound like knock.
By the way, that's a good way to datalog for high load, 4th gear, going up hill with extra weight in the car. You should duplicate that while running the logger. Even if you are having someone else tune it for you, it would good info to show them.

It probably is knock.. one thing to be aware of is the Maps provided with the UTEC are only a starting point and "your mileage may vary".. so you'll definitely have to spend some time tuning the car (or having it tuned if you don't have the instrumentation to do it)

Thanks, I wish I was logging when it happened, I'll try to duplicate w/ a wideband and see if its fuel or timing issue.

Take a look at your INJ Duty cycle. I have noticed that I thought I was getting a lot of phantom knock on my car since the UTEC would flash my CEL but nothing would be in the logs. After a few runs I realized the UTEC was flashing my CEL when I hit %100 INJ duty cycle. Didnt even know this feature was in there.

The utec doesn't flash when you hit a 100% duty cycle. The UTEC will only notify you of knock by flashing your CEL. Your vehicle is knocking when you hit 100% IDC, too lean, just that simple.

Thanks,
Jermaine~

I am far from lean. Running 10.8:1 AFR's in those zones. The CEL light is flashing at high RPM's with light loads. If it were knock then that knock would be recorded in the knock column but it isnt. Since it only comes on at 100% Duty cycle I figured it was the reason. If that isnt it then why isnt the utec counting any knock but flashing the CEL?

I was w/ PDXEvo at the dyno day and when he took me for a ride. That car is far from lean. I was seeing 10's on his tuner pro at high RPM.

My response was directed more at the fact that he said his logs shows 100% idc and he cel flashes at the same time. Honestly, regardless of the afr if you knock you are like too lean for the timing that you are run in that area. The easiest way to fix it is to retard timing a degree or two. Tuning a car you are looking for the optimal balance between Boost, timing and AFR. If one of these are not in line, detonation or the lack of power is the end result.

Thanks,

Jermaine~

I am still wondering though why the UTEC isnt counting any knock and the stock ECU isnt retarding timing, nor is the UTEC for that matter, where I see the CEL flash. I am always tuning with another person in the car and I always say "knock" when I see the CEL flash but the UTEC doesnt show this particular know. It was very weird.

When does it happen? Under full load or while you are editing maps?

Thanks,

Jermaine~

Under full load while running datalog 1. It also only happens in first gear.
