Tune Utec w/ Mac?
Tune Utec w/ Mac?
Anyone tried doing this? I know you need hyper terminal, but I think I may have found Apple's version. http://homepage.mac.com/dalverson/zterm/
So my question is, has anyone used this?

I've used terminal programs for the MAC, as long as you have a serial port (or usb-serial adapter) you can use ZTerm or Appleterm (if they have it around)
The only difference with using it and hyperterminal is you'll have to figure out how to do the text capture and text upload for the map and logging..

Yea I just downloaded Zterm, played around with it for a little while, but havent got it totally set up yet.I hope its a little easier to use then damn hyper terminal (I hate windows
)If I can't figure this thing out soon I might just have to take it somewhere to get it set up.

Well, thanks to Steve Job's official announcement, you may be able to use hyperterminal on your Mac after all... LOL
Sorry, couldn't resist the Intel/Macintosh joke..
I'm looking forward to a version of MacOS for the Intel platform, it means its one step closer to having a decent alternative OS to Windows XP...

I've used Virtual PC with an old G3 powerbook (upgraded) to tune Power FC's and datalog; I'd suggest not using anything slower than 1ghz G4 powerbooks. It's just too darn slow otherwise. VPC is not the best program but I haven't used the latest version. I'm not sure if it'd have any effect on the sample rate while datalogging. Ideally, you'd need a program ported to OSX. It'd make a nice combo with the G4 12" powerbooks!

The virtual PC software for MAC OSX works really well...
Anyway, in reality on the UTEC, almost any basic terminal emulator (text/vt100/ansi) that someone would use for a "BBS" or Modem, will work fine on the Mac for this.. Zterm or anything thats available..
if you want to use an app specifically designed for the PC, such as Data Log Lab, or UCC4, or my Digital Dashboard, then you need a windows based PC or emulator.

Yeah it works just fine but it's sloooooow depending on which system you're using. I've used it on a dual gig desktop, a dual 2gig G5, and two different powerbooks. The desktops pumped through it fine with only the occasional hesitation. On the 1ghz powerbook (12" model) you could type and there was a delayed reaction in the computer actually inserting the numerals. For logging, it'll work but I'm worried it will slow down the sample rate. I haven't tried it recently but I'm going to download Zterm and skirt the issues with running VPC.
MaibuJack, you're the most computer literate person I've come across as of yet...any chance you could give a rundown on using ZTerm on a Mac with the UTEC? I downloaded the program and to be honest, there are dozens of choices to make when setting it up, different from the Hyper. Maybe we could make it a sticky? If you have the time.

I don't have a Mac so I'll have to think about the equivalent settings, but generally you would use the text (Ascii) upload/download features with no delimiter to capture/upload maps.. and the settings for the com port are the same as the Hyperterminal (9600,8,n,1 with xon xoff flow control)
also set your scrollback buffer as large as you can, or remember to turn on capture to disk if your logging.
Hopefully that helps..

Ok gotcha...I'll take some screen shots of the various options and post them when I get a chance. It may be a serial to USB firmware issue, although with OSX, drivers aren't usually needed.
