What is the best way to read knock?

I have an XEDE computer and I am attempting to build a custom map.

I am looking for the best way to monitor knock while I am tuning to ensure I am not to aggressive on timing or AFR.

I have tried the Vishnu SMART package with ChipTorques knock buffer but that isn't exactly what I am looking for.

I want to be able to read a knock event that is outside the standard engine noise parameters. Prior to my EVO I had a 98 GSX DSM with DSMLink. They provided a knock output in degrees of knock. Is there anything like this for the EVO?

The AEM is the only answer I have seen that can datalog the knock sensor fast enough (250 samples per second) at the time of ignition so you get true sensor values. By doing this you can see engine noise outside the normal noise trend and use your own values for ignition timing retard and extra fueling as well as your ignition and fuel recovery plan values.
