What is an acceptable knock count?

I was wondering what most people running the PowerFC would consider an acceptable knock count under WOT runs.

I know that extremely hot weather contributes to higher knock as well as sub standard fuel and overly aggressive tuning.

Just wondering what is considered "safe" parameters using the PowerFC and the OEM knock sensor.

Thanks,

Tony

So then a knock count between 10 and 20 could be considered pretty acceptable?

That's the highest I've seen so far and just wanted to make sure that I was in a safe range.

Thanks,

Tony

I would have to say that would be ok!..... I have a crank pulley on my car... and thats what I think makes some extra noise.... try running a gallon of race gas with your 93 octane... and your knock wont go over 5

20 is fine I would say.

On race gas I never see past 10...and thats at WOT.

My knock always has that "l" sign next to it. Do I need to go WOT to see if it read a number?

Has anybody tried an aftermarket knock sensor? It would be nice to have two for a little more safety.

Does it record peak value from the last WOT?

Peaks are recorded until you turn off the ignition or exit peak mode. It doesn't distinguish WOT from normal throttle, although most peaks would occur at WOT.

on my evo 5 rs i tuned it to stay below 40-45 better if you leave it below 30. when it gets to 60 value the car detonates and hear knocking pistons. with crap gas here in uruguay south america at 21psi stock turbo and 5 degrees of timing at wot from 4k to 6k and then climbing till 7700rpm to 12 degrees had 40 value in knock activity. good luck on tuning

I was / occasionally get knocks up in the 80's

But as mentioned 60 or below is acceptable but worth paying attention to maybe speaking to your tuner is a good idea
