dynoflash- mail in versus custom

I'm debating on doing a mail in flash or driving 250miles over to Dynoflash and getting it tuned. I'm not thrilled about driving far either.

Currently for performance mods, I only have hks catback and rs intake. I do have a S AFC but I don't know why I have it because I can't tune it, and rather not touch it because I'm unexperienced (dont want to hurt my engine)

Next week I'm getting my dp and hfc installed.

Do you guys personally think I should wait for a few more mods before I do any tuning because either way I don't want to go back and get reflashed or mail in my ECU again on my next mods.

How far into modding can I get before I will have no choice but to tune my car. I really plan on getting a lot more work on the engine ex. cam gears and shafts, fuel pump, injectors, ic piping, bov, manifold, clutch, later on complete turbo upgrade.

P.S. Thanks in advance for any help on this, This forum is really kick-*** regarding tech help.

Post the same question in the dynofalsh forum and al wil answer your questions. I think he can do in a mail in flash to sort your upcoming mods, but to get the most power u will need a custom tune. I would get the catback, dp and then get the mail in flash. When u do more extensive mods, turbo, cams etc, u should probably get a custom tune

I was debating the same thing that you are about a couple of months ago. I then drove 400 miles to al for the custom tune. It was simply a night and day difference. There is nothing wrong with the mail in flash, I have seen a dyno sheet of a guy that made over 50 hp from als mail in flash.

My point is that every car is different, and there may or may not be gains to be had depending on what the a/f curve looks like.

Id just drive up there. You will wear a smile on your face the entire way home.....trust me

I thought about it too, I figured I would just go drive down there I wanted to see him tune it myself if possible.

I'm sure I'll be very pleased with the tune

Big mods (i.e. turbo/injectors/etc), custom tune. Little to no mods, mail-in. I still prefer the SAFC+Wideband self-tune .

The thing is I have a S AFC!! but I can't tune it

The reason I got it was because I was scared to get idle from installing my intake which I never got (the idle)

The ECU will compensate for any changes you make to the fuel with the AFC II at idle. The AFR's should stay in the 14's.

Just save some money, purchase the wideband and tune with your AFR's -- keep the car in the 11's through redline and you'll be fine
