No reflash needed?

My local tune shop (not going to name them),said that reflashing for bolt-ons is unnecessary that it justs adjusts ur ecu to not throw the check engine light ! is this true in a sense? i had my scooby done there an was happy with the results but had a "cel" w/ no mentioning of reflashing it! am i missing something here ?

On non turbo cars this is fairly true because airflow doesn't change that much.

However.....a reflash for specific mods like turbo back exhaust ...on a turbo car make a big difference. The flash also leans out the pig rich air fuel ratio that the factory flash has programed. Definately worth getting a flash if you have the basic bolt ons completed.

This info you have is not accurate

A good flash is set up to tune the a.f and ign timing tables to match the mods you are adding to achive a smooth power delivery - additional power and saftey

Avoiding a cel is usually not a benefit of flashing unless your tune is grossly off without a flash

I was told by somebody that the stock ECU compenstates for a considerable range of conditions. Therefore it is not necessary if you are not doing anything to significantly change the set up such as adding a new turbo or increasing the boost significantly.

Is this true?

Well that is sort of true. You can get away without a tune but there are HUGE gains to be had with a tune.

It's true, but it's leaving out one very important factor: from the factory, our tune is PIG RICH (<10.0:1 AFR above 6krpm), so there is MUCH power to be gained with a tune regardless of whether you have mods or not. With mods, though, you gain not only the power from fixing the stock tune, but you also gain additional power from perfectly compensating for the additional airflow from the added mods.
