The Ecutek advantage primarily is due to several reasons

First and foremost - they only accept very skilled tuning partners to administer the softwear

Secondly - they provide amazing tech support to the partners and they Ecutek are one of the very best ecu engineers in teh entire world

Third - the tuning interphase is very advanced and allows for a great result

I have been tuning with Ecutek for about a year now and I have yet to see any problems what so ever - its am amazing product

i used Ecutek to tune the MR that raced in the SCCA National Campionship run offs this year - car # 5 - it lasted an entire week of insane testing and racing without a clitch - it was no accident that the winning STI subarus also had ecutek

There's two types of reflash software that tuners are using....one is Techtom and the other is Ecutek. Everything in Techtom is all hex which makes it really hard to find which map is which in turn made everything more complicated. Ecutek on the other hand have a much better interface for the tuner with along with more function. You can rescale the maf, scale the injectors, and do two steps on it. Thats something that Techtom can't do.

So, yet another offtopic question but isnt both of those softwares highly illegal technically? It is reverse engineering mitsubishi's code. Just a thought I guess since they stole the code first, what are the chances of finding out what the actual hex is that they have found already? I have been researching this quite a bit and it seems the easiest way to do it would be to make a mock 'car' via electronics and hook up the ECU and just start attemping to change things and see if you can figure it out. I have been reading the ECU newgroups for the DSMs but cant seem to figure out how they actually come to the true calculations. It is relatively easy to see the tables but to make sense of them is a little more difficult.

I assume the reason people havent hacked nearly as much on the Evos is the dsmer style is much more DIY type people (And generally cheaper). The Evo crowd seems much more apt to buy crap and have someone toss it on. Have someone else tune thier car, etc..

Also, since Techtom is all in hex already I assume they give you some sort of .xdf file (Or similair) for finding and editing the variables? Are they using a proprietary software or something like TunePro to edit the hex?

The reason why in most cases it is better to have a specalist to reflash your car with a hexidecimal code based flash becuase mush of the process you speak of does involve a lot of "just trying to change things" and a lot of trial and error

Once you figure it all out the hexidecimal based system works fine

The Ecutek is a system with zero trial and error required - its all laid out in easy to use maps

The system they sell comes with a very good hexidecimal code editing set up

HOWEVER YOUR comments here are to Ecutek

If you have any additional concerns about reflashing in general wait for my article in the Feb 2006 Turbo Magazine which discusses all of these issues

Terribly sorry for being offtopic I figured it might still be interesting info to the original poster. I think it is still pertinent info for people to know about the Ecutek at anyrate... competitors and options are good info to know when researching a company/product. Glad you answered my question as to whose software you use to tune cars also, or is it a secret? Still curious as to how illegal it is also, your an ex-lawyer arent ya?

And for your answer, a 'custom tune' I would assume you mean you drive your car to someone and they tune it for you using the stock ECU (Reflashing). It is the same thing... the Ecutek gives the user the ability to change what was said earlier in the thread.... I am assuming that most tuners that reflash cars are using one of the two forementioned items to do it.

Don't appologize for one second. You've brought up a very good topic pertaining to reflashes yet threatening to those who have grown accustomed to reflashing being looked at as taboo by the end user. No vendor bashing here, just a reminder of the power of open source Look at how long licensed based flashing lasted in the LS1 world

edit: for me being to tired to type LS1 right.

My point is that the section of the forums here is the Ecutek forums. There are many other places to post subjects about hexidecimal code editors and the like.

Name the many other places to ask questions about hex editing on this forum? If there are any I will use them instead. I obviously wont post in your special forum part because you are obviously the little leader over there.

Im sorry but I dont understand half of your replies.. most of the time you dont actually answer my questions. And then the other time you make answers for questions that werent asked. Who the hell is a specialist in hex tuning? You? You are going to tell me that you are some sort of specialist because you paid $7 or $8 grand for a tuning suite from a company that told you what variables to change and how to change them, wrote the software you are using to do it and gave you all the hardware? You havent to my knowledge actually reverse engineered any part of the code, I may be wrong and if so please let me know what you can do that I couldnt do if I paid the same money to the same company? As for the trial and error part... if you havent successfully been able to modify anything other than what the software you bought can do, what have you done that has anything to do with trial and error... or is that your tuning strategy... trial and error. And, since you are talking about Hex editing and the like, isnt that with the use from the Techtom software and not at all from the Ecutek stuff. Since this is an Ecutek forum you shouldnt go off topic and speak of such things here... do it on the non-existant Hex Editing and Reverse Engineering of stock Mitsu ECU's forum located elsewhere on this site.

You have marketed yourself well. I admire that but dont try to belittle or mislead other people and try to consider yourself a damned hex editing professional. Dont try to make it seem like you have done anything you havent like figuring out how to reflash our cars or anything; You bought a product from a company and use it to tune peoples cars. Nothing more, nothing less. But I guess since you get paid to do a deed, technically you are a professional by most definitions.

Please actually try to answer my questions in full for once. Somehow you always find a way to push my buttons. Im not sure if its because I think you lie to people and make yourself seem like something your not or because I am jealous you jumped on this easy market before I did.

My main point with you is that this is a brand new ECUTEK forum

The thread is about ECUTEK advantages

This entire train of throught is off topic to the discussion of ECUTEK products (which BTW are great products)

I really do not want to get into a debate here about what I do or don't do with flashing equipment - its not relevant to the issue of ECUTEK products and also - its not information which I care to discuss.

Trinababe,

What does your last question have to do with the original? Your expose is over in this thread. If you want to start a new thread fine. I also have the opinion that your piercing questions and comments are disingenuous. Specifically you have a commercial interest in discrediting competitors and a warning that Evom will not allow it. Thanks.
