Retiring the UTEC

Hey folks.. Just wanted to post a quick note that I'm retiring the UTEC officially this week. I'm not selling it, and will still write about it, but I won't have anything new to contribute until the new firmware is released.

Its a shame to see such a great piece of hardware beginning to get overlooked because of a lack of support..

I have decided to use the ECU+ for data logging and fine tuning over the ECU Reflashing..

Although ECU+ is a one-man operation for the most part, his product gets updated frequently, he's very responsive to input (and I have alot of input )

Please TurboXS, You really need to dedicate some additional resource to finishing up what you promised to the Evo UTEC folks. I love the unit, but I feel like I have an absentee family...

ECU+ is a nice unit and like you said it has the support.

I thought about doing the same thing, we'll see how good the Open Ecu becomes. Right now I run on Map0 and just use the UTEC for datalogging

Damn, that sucks. TXS needs to do something before they lose more customers. Jack is/was the most informative/knowledgeable user I've had the plessure of begging help from. Now who's going to answer my stupid questions?

Like I said, for the time being I have to move onto something that has better logging, now that the limitations of the ECU can be easily adjusted the UTEC needs to get its firmware update soon.. But I have 1000cc injectors, and a ton of new hardware to get working..

I was in the same boat as you, and retired mine as well.

Just curious as why you decided on the ECU+ platform and didn't go with aem or hydra, or something else. Just curious.

This car is a street legal car that legitamately passes inspection.. ECU+ and Reflashing cable are all I need...

I sold my UTEC off as well and decided to go with the ecuflash option for tuning.

My reason was simple. Money. I sold the UTEC to buy other items I wanted/needed for the car.

I can easily achieve the same power level with the stock ecu (basic bolt-ons) and the car is better equipped with my new purchases. -Gabe

Haha, you aren't doomed, but I'll tell you who is: TurboXS wholesale order lines and price points for new UTECs. Used UTECs are going to continue to cannibalize new sales until they devote effort to customer support, if ever. If I was a UTEC retailer / distributor with some in stock, I'd be mighty pissed.

To see Jack leave the fold while I continue to have ECU switchover problems with my UTEC...the days of me carrying the TXS banner proudly may be numbered. Really, not trying to be immodest, but that's their loss.

Best,
Adam

We all lost here, the used ones go for around $500 these days. I was hoping this update comes out eventually but from what it seems it either won't or it's gonna be a while until it does. After so long and I even lost interest in it.

I jumped ship as well. I had gotten to the point of being able to dial in AFR's on my UTEC from scratch in under 5 pulls( about 30 minutes) and have them DEAD on. Same with timing . I loved tuning that thing. Went AEM........Never looked back.......AEM now controlls my N2o, my boost, H2o, intercooler sprayer.....and stuff that i cant even figure out yet. This is somthing you could never outgrow........Frustrating due to complexity-occasionaly...........just give me another year........or two.........RRR

I've said this before, but if not for the inspection requirement of OBD-II in my state, I probably would be running a standalone.. However the ECU+, and a reflash cable are the next best thing considering you have control over many of the same things a standalone would.

If I had to rely on only a piggyback system and a stock ECU that wasn't reflashed (Warranty reasons or something else) then the UTEC would still be my first choice.

Its still the best option for multiple maps, and easy use, while being able to bypass the ECU's limitations without a reflash.
