Newbie Utec Question

Searched for a couple hours, and learned alot, but not what I was looking for.

If the stock ECU (I have an 03) has two separate sets of maps, and swaps between them, depending on if knock is detected, how does the Utec fit into this? Do the Utec fuel/timing maps replace the more aggressive ECU maps until knock is detected, and then it's swapped to the more conservative maps in the ECU? Or, are the Utec maps the only ones accessed, and timing retard/fuel enrichment is put on top of the Utec map?

Also, any general opinions on whether the Tuner Pro unit is worth it? Noone seems to be using the knock sensor, just the wideband feature.

Knock is set up through the Utec, when it knocks the Utec will pull timing, in OLF the ECU maps are not used at all. I know a couple poeple with the tuner pro and they only use it for AFR's

You can let the ECU handles the knock detection and retard timing ONLY if you filled your UTEC ignition map with "ECU" value. WIth any other value on the UTEC map, UTEC will take over the ignition timing (including knock retard) control for that particular RPM/Load cell.

Tuner Pro may be worth it if you use its standalone knock sensor and tune with a headphone.

ok guys, thanks for the input, it really helps. I took the time to download the user manual from turboxs, and yes, I read it twice. Aside from injector scaling, it doesn't look like you can do much with idle control or part throttle (less than 25%) response if that area is an issue from either a) an aftermarket intake or b) larger injectors. Is that a true statement or not? Also, I'm running larger injectors and the flash I have is for larger injectors. The idle and part throttle was not adjusted in the flash, only the open loop map. Would it be better to flash back to stock injector size and do the scaling on the Utec or just use the Utec to piggyback on the flash?

Some may ask why am I going with Utec now that self flashing is available and the lack of support from a software standpoint???? Well, I'm tired of being at the mercy of a tuners schedule who can flash my ECU. I've had 3 flashes since November 05. You have to plan mods around a tuners schedule, not to mention the wasted cost. I don't necessarily want to do my own tuning, I just want a platform that more people (like local people) can tune properly on a dyno. If I leave 5% on the table by going Utec vs. a standalone and save $1000 in the process, I'm perfectly ok with that. I'd rather not change my tune every time the wind direction changes, but an easy way to change a tune as you change mods would be good. Is the Utec for me? All those selling Utecs at the moment, your vote doesn't count. My setup is a 50 trim with 780's (for now).

Again, thanks for the input and sorry for asking such basic questions. This is day two of my attempts at increasing my Utec knowledge.
