Hydra Vs. EMS Physical Comparo

First off, YES, I searched. There is plenty of information, but I have specific questions.

Im tiring of having to say that everytime I post, but such is the way these days.

ANyways, has anyone used the Hydra THEN AEM EMS in a back to back usage to determine useablity and features?

I dont care about power numbers as both of them are very capapble units, and that depends heavily on the tuners.

Im interested in the types of things such as ease of install, software adaptability, ease of use and if they in fact, are equally capable of being used to the same maximum potential (i.e, they both can do the same things when ALL of the features are employed in an all out vehicle).

So if anyone has first hand experience, that'd be great. ANy opinions welcome.

doubt you will get much here, subi guys love the hydra, may be because they have a dedicated tuner. i don't think anyone has stepped up as an evo -hydra guru. so unless you plan on doing the hydra as a hobby with infrequent help from above....

i have a hydra and like it, never used the aem.

Noogles, clue me in on what I am missing, having never used aem, that makes the hydra crap.

1) having to constantly sync the crank sensor to the EMS
2) Have to tune cell by cell, you can't do groups
3) onboard map sensor is a pos
4) wideband (auto tune) function is $350 extra,
5) replacement l2h2 02 sensor is $300
6) box is huge and hard to place in the stock location
7) no USB support, limited serial port adapter support

thats just a start

ive tuned a hydra on my friends mazdaspeed miata and i like that system alot. another huge plus for the hydra is the hydramist alky injection and all the safety taht you get when you use them together.

i have no experience wiht AEM though

Knock control features are more important to me than anything else.
So I would go exclusively with an AEM first.

so you have found the hydra lacking? just curious my old hydra is out, back to ecu, but the ability to work around noise or knock was there.
