People who know nothing at all will claim their butt-dyno makes their "tuner" really good which is not necessarily the case.
Yeah I know this .....it was meant to be somewhat of a smartass question towards the comment that was made, meaning proffesional tuners arent always good as they think they are. I have a friend who is a good tuner but he does not make a living from it nor does he tune other peoples cars....and I wouldnt trust anyone else but him

And I'm under the impression that loadable maps are difficult to deal with because the user has to change A/F ratios and timing. AccessPort does all of this for the tuner that isn't savvy with doing this.

3. Tuning - I can't run to the dyno everytime I do a mod and pay a couple hundred dollars. Once you've done that a few times, you've paid for the latter options. Plus you can't revert to the stock ecu map as easily...which is a BIG selling point for me.

My friend has the AP for his WRX, and he loves it. From what I understand, boost will be controlled through the ECU, which is one less mod that a dealer would see when in for servicing.

I love the idea all of the options, and if someone could give an answer to all of the above points for me, I'd be grateful
1. You need a laptop. There's no getting around it aside from an in-car computer

2. I come from Lexus, and was new to FI as well...but I boosted my and learned a lot in the process. When I got my car, I actually took the car to the dealership to change my turn signals to ricer white. I really knew nothing at all.

As far as maps and AF ratios are concerned, loadable maps are simply that. Load and go. But I think the better option is to change what you currently have so that it'll work perfectly.

3. Dyno tuning is not necessary. Road tuning is better. You have the actual driving experience, actual load on the car. You have wind/air cooling your intercooler in a natural environment rather than huge fans blowing at them. I have not been to a dyno to tune with my other car. I don't expect to...only to see what I can put down.

Boost is already controlled by the ECU in the EVO same thing.

you do NOT need a laptop if you have the accessport and our running one of thier base maps. To custom tune your car a laptop would be required. Or you can take it to a protuner or take your streettuner to any tuner you want.

Good tuner or bad tuner if they are familar with tuning programs ecuflash is not hard to work with. It is not very user friendly for newcommers where street tuner has a help section you just hit the FXX key and it loads up what the map does and what you would want to look at to tune it. It is rediculously easy.

I recommend everyone that has ecuflash play a little with street tuner if you get the chance it is in a class of its own and worth the extra money IMHO. For me ease of tuning, saving me time in tuning, and having someone I can call and get good tech support in the unfortunite case where something goes wrong is worth way more then $700.

Sorry I dont think I was clear in my post. I need a laptop for EcuFlash when i dont have or need one....the points were about the options other than AP because I understand that AP is an all inclusive tuner.

When i say boost is ECU controlled, I mean that there will be no need for a MBC when you have AP because all the increases in boost will be through AP

Is there someone that has a downloadable Ecu Rom (EcuFlash) that has the same tune as DynoFlash? Is that how it works? If not, how is their mail in tune any different?

From what I understand a mail in tune will be the same as a Eflash tune. One you do the work flashing your ECU the other you ship it out there and He does the work.

Either way for both engine management systems in question to custom tune you need a laptop bottom line. Access port just allows you to upload maps not customized for your car and you cant even make changes to it unless you have a laptop.

Correct but if you want to you can take your street tuner to any tuner that is willing to tune your car and he can tune your car with his laptop.

Or you can take your car to a authorized Protuner and they can tune your car with thier software making the street tuner not needed unless you want to make changes yourself. Then after your protune you have that map saved on your port so you can switch back to stock, valet or any other map on your port. Also your tuner can make a pump gas map and a race gas map and you can use your port to switch back and forth.

Wow that says a lot if Al likes it.

I personally am excited abot the Access Port. I know everyone seems to be in love with the ECUflash but for someone like me who knows nothing about editing maps its of not a lot of use. The Access Port will be nice as I can have my tuner use the Steet software and create me 4 maps (stock / 91 oct / 100 oct / higher race gas) and I can load them as I need them. I can also keep the thing in my glove box so its always easy to use. Another nice feature I'm looking forward to is Valet mode. Living in Vegas I have the oppertunity to valet a lot but I dont as I worry about how they are going to drive my car.

the valet mode is perfect for vegas. IIRC, in the WRX the rev limit was set to 4k rpms.

I actually watched one valet car go WOT in my car then....balh blah blah....lol

I'm looking forward to the release of the AP for the EVO, too. The nice thing about it is you can get a small boost right away with Stg 1, then ratchet it up as you wish later with more mods and pro- tuning. I've thoroughly enjoyed it with the WRX and can't wait.
