Is there something the accessport can do that a $90 cable from openecu can't do?
I'm not being an ***...honestly just asking.

You can have multiple maps stored on the device. So instead of lugging around your laptop and switching maps you just bring along the accessport and be done in a few mins. It also seems much easier to use. They will also have maps already made for multiple stages, so if you don't know how to tune and you slowly upgrade it can pay itself off. For example you only get the flash for a stock evo, then later on you upgrade your exhaust/intake and you can just download the stage 2 map, and so on.
There is no exact release date but they say they are aiming for fall of 06

I think its gonna be around the same price as the AP for the STi.
Are you on IS300.net?

I've got an STi and I have a Cobb AP with Protuned maps. Before the release of EcuFlash I would have said the Cobb AP is the greatest thing around for engine management. It is very easy to use and extremely effective. It also cost me $650 for the AP unit and another $300 for the Protune which is a dyno tune with a professional tuner who creates a custom map.
I bought a IX MR and there was nothing like the AP for Evos. After waiting for the AP I finally tried out the EcuFlash software. I bought an EFlash from Dynoflash and then I had my car tuned at AMS who used the EcuFlash software. Now I am a true believer in the EcuFlash. It works just as well as the AP but it costs way less. Obviously the software is free which in my case leaves me the price of the custom tune. In comparison, I paid $90 for the cable and then $400 for the AMS tune which is a total of $490 for a professional tune compared to the $950 for the comparable set up on the Cobb system.
The great thing about the EcuFlash is that I can actually go back into the ROM file and I can make changes. If I add any new parts in the future I can make the changes in my map myself and I don't have to pay for a re-tune. With my STi, if I make any changes at all to the car I will have to pay another $300 to have the car tuned or I will have to buy the Streettuner software and create my own maps and they are not compatible with the Protuner maps so I will have to blank out the old maps.
In my opinion it's a case of too little too late for Cobb. They needed to come out with this thing last year because the advent of EcuFlash really limits the need for the AP.
