Question 2003 Evolution 12 PSI?

Hey I recently bought a 2003 Evolution 8 and i got it with the following mods:

255 Walbroh Fuel Pump
Greddy 50mm BOV
New Intercooler 28 by 13 by 4
Full Intercooler Pipes
3 inch TBE
Test Pipe
Hallman MBC
Apexi SAFC Controller

When i got it the guy took the SAFC out and it was running like total **** and wouldnt drive i hooked a friends up and got it to a mechanic. The mechanic took the SAFC out and the MBC out and tuned it to run 12 PSI and i dont know why. He said that if i turned it up anymore i could blow the motor. Seeing that stock boost is 19 PSI and people are easily running 23 on stock build.

I am trying to get some advice on what i should do because the boost holds perfect and when i hook the MBC up it just spikes hella boost and wont stay steady.

Any advice on what i shoul have done to get above or around 20 PSI?
-Tune?
-Electronic Boost Controller?
-Anything Else that can be done?

Please help anything will help what i know now!
Thank You!

If you took the MBC off, you have to reinstall the "Pill" in the line at the "T" near the wastegate, or at the line under the airbox. I am still too sleepy, let me get some more coffee, and the correct verbage will come out of me! Easy fix anyway.

If you are running w/o the Hallman mbc, then you will need to reinstall a stock boost hose in there. It contains a restrictor pill which makes the stock evo run higher boost than what you are running. The guy should have replaced this hose if he removed his MBC. You are probably just running wastegate boost.

The hose is pretty cheap. I'd either buy another one, or get the mbc put in correctly. You'll need to get it tuned either way.

SAFC=Crap.

As far as tuning goes, get it tuned by a good tuner using EcuTek or EcuFlash, one of the flashing programs for stock ECU's. The tune will be ten times better using stock ECU than a SAFC. As far as the boost goes, just leave it on wastegate pressure until you get a tune, because, if the tune is messed up, you dont really want to run aggressive boost, or you can blow your motor with a lean condition or something to that extent. I would find a good performance shop locally who specializes in evos, because it sounds like you went to a generic fix it mechanic who didnt know much about evos.

You can get one of those hoses anywhere that sells stock evo parts. mitsubishiparts.net has lots of stuff. I get my stock stuff from Norco Mitsubishi in southern calif.

Some of the So Cal evo users like the SAFC. I've never used it. From what I understand, you can do a lot more with ecuflash and a tactrix cable. Are you going to tune the car yourself or have someone do it for you?

cont'

If you're going to tune it yourself and have some knowlege, would not be hard to hook the MBC back up, set it to the lowest boost setting, reflash your evo with a stock evo 8 rom and slowly add back boost until you're in a stockish boost range. Of course you will need a laptop, evoscan, ecuflash and a tactrix cable - wideband would be nice too.

I did take it to a generic fix it guy and i dont think he knew about the pill stuff, but how much would you say a ecutek or ecuflash tune would be by a professional?

Tunes can range from 200-500 and up depending on how in depth the tuner goes. A quick road tune I would pay like 300 for max.

250 is normal for roadtune more or less (least thats what I charge), 100 for a flash. Something like this where you have some labor to return the car to normal boost control should be had for 100 or so on top of what you pay for tuning. I am on the coast, PM if you want more details.
