Trying to tune - 2 questions

Alright Gurus,

I have been doing extensive amounts of logging and trying to do some tweaking, but I have two questions that have me stumped.

First - My setup

04 Evo
Megan Racing O2 Housing, DP and Cat back
Perrin HFC
Blitz EBC dialed in at 22.5 psi

Questions:

1) looking at the logs below that I took this am I still have knock and its occuring the same places as it has been and based on the rpm and load I have dialed down timing several times and its not going away. How do you tell the difference between real knock and false signals? this could be my exhaust rattling or something?

2) I have dialed my AFRs back in my high octane map a few times and am now at the limit and my AFRs are still around 12 (11.5 - 12.5). Am I doing this right and just am in dier need of less boost or a fuel pump or am I doing this wrong?

I could be wrong so dont trust me saying this, but it is something to try.

IIRC starting your pull from a very low RPM, ie. 1.5~2K, it can cause false knock. Try a 4th or 5th gear pull from 3K to 5K and see if the knock is still there

Didn't think about trying that. Just finding it hard to distinguish real knock and not knock since I am a newbie

Does the AFR issue sound like not enough cajones from the fuel pump arena?

I wouldn't be concerned with a 2 count of knock during spool up, I'd be more concerned about the 12.0 AFR and having to throw tons of fuel at it just to get that. Did you get the fuel pump installed yet?

Yup and put my fuel maps back where they were and its running on the rich side now. I haven't had a chance to do much logging and tuning with it yet now, but the fuel pump made worlds of difference.

good deal when I put in my walbro 255 I also had to adjust the mid trim area to keep it from bottoming out and getting bad gas mileage

Bottoming out?

Haven't checked my mileage on a tank as when I pulled it my sending unit was about to fall off so I fixed it and it didn't read right at first, its reading right now but I haven't checked this tank yet to see where it is.

Been busy with work and such and I picked up a new laptop for logging and just haven't had time to set it all up the way I want it yet. I will for sure do some logging and tuning by the weekend and let you know where it goes. Just not sure what you meant by bottoming out?

sorry I wasn't clear. If you're running too rich or lean the stock ECU tries to adjust the fuel trims to get you back to "stoich". The stock ECU can only do a small amount of adjustment so if you're extremly rich or extremly lean it will not be able to get you back to where you need to be. It's up to you to get the car in the ballpark so the ECU can trim. Ideally you want those trims close to a value of 100, but don't sweat it if it's not perfect. You just want to make sure it isn't bottomed out at a very low number or very high number and unable to help.

Alright. That makes perfect sense!
