Question tuning seminar

i have a question that needs some direction so links are more than welcome.

alittle background on me so my post and question is more understood. i am a BMW diag. tech and have been in the automotive business for about 7 yrs. now. i spent alot of time working with two different rally teams (mitsu TAD, subes RALLISPEC) and have a pretty strong knowledge for all automobile systems. over my past couple of years with BMW my passion has faded but with my purchase of my evo (1 year ago) i have found a new spark and drive. with that said...

i love any form of higher education and always jump on any classes i can take or electives (automobile related)

the question, does anyone know of any tuning classes weather aem, ecuflash, ect. that are available for the general public? i would love to take a class or seminar on this subject! like i said, and im sure many of you can relate, i am a knowledge junky and am very interested in this matter.

thanks in advance, matyb

took an efi university class with Ben last year. lots of info, geared towards people or shops that want to tune.

I'd recommend it, I just wanted to know what it was all about, since my experience was with carbs and pre 1980 stuff.

odd, not much chance for bad facts in the 101 class I had. a bit of math, and calcs and formulas that could not be in dispute.

The next class as I understood it was to acquaint you with using a dyno. Ben is big in believing the dyno is the only way to tune. From the little dyno presentation he did for us I don't see anything wrong with that idea.
At the time al & V were the only guys I knew of who were flashing / piggying, so flashing was a non issue. Generally flashing and tuning an aftermarket emc are similar but I hope he incorporates stock computer tuning in his class now. His class productions dealt with tuning AEM type stuff.

of course you don't have to take his personal views as gospel we are all free to be misguided.

if i did decide to take the class or classes i'm sure i wouldn't be disappointed. i just dont know if the book that he wrote was a fair thing to judge him on or not. if you look at the reviews on amazon they really trashed him pretty bad, not just one or two like all the 20 or so reviews. by the way thanks for the replies the time is appreciated!

just trying to decipher if theses classes are a joke or legit

I've taken the EFI 101 and Advanced classes as well. I thought they were very good, and Ben is extremely knowledgeable about tuning. The 101 class teaches you all the basics and how to properly tune a car and the reasons behind it. The Advanced class is a small "hands-on" class where you actually learn how to operate a car on the dyno and tune afr and timing using a standalone ecu.
Most of the bad things I've heard about his book were from people who thought it was an advanced complete guide to tuning engines, but that its more beginner oriented and just covers mostly basics.

He is definitely legit. He had over 5000 hours of dyno time when he taught our class a little over 2 years ago. He's by far the most knowledgeable tuner I've ever met, and a nice guy to boot. If you are serious and can afford the class, I would definitely recommend it.
