Reputable Shop Tune VS Local Tuner Tune
Reputable Shop Tune VS Local Tuner Tune
I got my 2005 EVO Vlll in June of this year. Car had 5,962 miles on it and a Turbo back, Filter w/ adapter plate, HKS SSQ, and a boost gauge. First thing i wanted to do was to get it flashed right away.
Now I'm not going to bash the shop that gave me my first flash. It just was not that good of a tune. The shop recommended to install a boost controller before the tune to raise boost a little bit to get the most out of the tune. So i had them install a boost controller at the shop. That was fine did not take a long time or anything and did an descent install. I say descent because i though they would at least mount the boost controller somewhere, but they did not(I took care of that when i got home). Then we went for a road tune. We only did three third gear pulls, and without a wide band hooked up. The car was tuned to 21 psi.
The car did pull harder than before. But i was averaging about 200 miles a tank. And i do enjoy my car a little bit, but i do not beat the hell out of it at all. I still have not launched the car hard at all. And i mean off the launch control (5700 RPM). Also it was hard to drive the car. As soon as i would hit boost without flooring the car it would sputter.
Since that tune I have installed AMS LICP, a bigger intercooler(AMS copy), Walbro Fuel Pump, and the NGK BPR7ES set to .026 (2023 at Murray's) series plugs.
Kunal recommended i put those spark plugs in, and he also put in the fuel pump for me before he flashed/tuned my car. He did hook up a wind band and we did about 7 or 8 pulls. First he showed my map from the previous tuner, then a base map, and couple of his maps(fuel). The map from my previous tuner was very blocky looking, compared to Kunal's tune and base tune which where both very linear in color change. Either way he put a base map on my car and we went for a very fun and interesting drive. After every single pull i felt an improvement. Of course zero counts knock through the entire process. Kunal explained to me what he was doing the entire time, and I even learned a few things from all the questions i asked him.
My car is just a blast to drive now. It pulls like a monster in my opinion. A couple of my good friends even noticed a difference. The thing that shocks the me most, Is since Kunal's tune I have been flooring it more and getting better gas mileage. I hit almost 280 miles on my last tank and I floor it more often now.
If anyone in the Chicago land area is looking for a really good tune. Get a hold of Kunal you will not be disappointed at all!!!!
