Still love my UTEC!
Although turbo xs has pretty much abandoned the utec market for Evos, it is still a great tool. For tuning there is no one better than Jermaine at turbo xs. Last week he tuned my car. Spent 4 hours on the dyno and another hour road tuning. Achieved perfect idle with 1000cc injectors, better fuel economy than I have ever had, no SES lights. The best part is I was able to make 500WHP with very good spool up on a 50 trim. With all the hating going on I just wanted to say that the UTEC is a great unit when properly configured. I have mine setup to control boost, a shift light, and my nitrous injection. He gave me 5 maps ranging from mild to wild all switchable w/o a laptop. The MAF proved to be no restriction at all and I can still pass emission with OBDII complinace. He was also able to re-flash the ecu to dial in the fuel trims perfectly. The combination of the flash and a utec can't be beat. I love my utec and see no reason to use anything else. If any users in the Northeast are interested in having Jermaine tune their cars, let me know and I will setup a dyno day in New York.
I still love my UTEC also.
I have 5 maps to use on the fly.
1. 91 Octane Map 1 Tune - 330whp
2. 93 Octane Map 2 Tune - 350whp
3. 100 Race Gas Mpa 3 Tune - 360whp - 26psi
4. Alky + 91 Map Tune - 380whp - 27 psi
5. Alky Aggressive + 91 Tune - 400whp - 30psi
I've been using it for almost 4 years now.
Never given me problems, and its a very stable unit.

I talked to one of the owners at TXS the other day when I was trying to get them to send me more fuses for my tuner. He said flat out, that they won't do anything else on the UTEC since all the cheaper plug ins cost so much less. There's just no point in it from a business standpoint.

Yeah, I was down there a couple of weeks ago and they are done with the UTEC market for the Evo. The have no plans on producing anything for the X. They will however continue to support the units that are out there. I am still trying to talk them into releasing the deveopment that they did for a new firmware. It is a GUI interface with a lot of cool options inlcuding autotune. I was told that it is 80% and then was abandoned. I am sure there are enough computer geeks on here to finish up the last 20%. Keep sending them Email asking for them to release it. The deveolpment was done in Australia and we need to get them to release the stuff to us.
Well count me in, Im going to start using mine which is BRAND NEW in a box still for the last 2 years *lol* I wanna have multiple maps, having only 1 kinda sucks and I loved my UTEC back in my WRX days.
Utec
Mach V is still selling this system and the Tuner. i was thinking about buying the whole system, which is about $1600, but now i'm unsure if that is wise. it seems that the users writing in this thread have had their cars tuned, but i thought the system was good enough to 'home tune' esp considering i will never be on the wild side of 350hp?

I've been using the TX UTEC since I bought the car new back in 2005. Paid dealer cost for it (around $600, brand new). I would highly recommend getting a utec (if you can find one) if:
1. you want to tune the car yourself
2. you already have a laptop and like to tweak/datalog/etc
3. you want to gain some experience with basic tuning
4. you will be adding basic bolt ons (intake, exhaust, cams, injectors)
If you can find a utec, (new or used) for around $600 then get it. With a Utec you should be able to reach your tuning goal of 350hp.
If you have any tuning questions PM me.

I'm going to consider re-buying one with the map selector. I'm just trying to find out if I can make 500whp with FP Red and Aquamist HFS-1
I'm new to UTEC, I bought a used VIII w/ UTEC. And I am in need of help. Does UTEC need to be recycled when the car battery is disconnect and reconnected?
The car will not start even though battery is fine. thanks.

Nope.. Both the factory ECU and UTEC will retain its programming if the battery is disconnected, no matter how long its been disconnected.
If it won't start, then there might be a problem with the UTEC itself, or something else is wrong in the car. Easy way to see if its the UTEC is to remove it and try starting the car with only its factory ECU.

Different hardware.. 350z/G35 UTEC is a different than EVO Utec, as is the Subaru UTEC different also.
So you cannot use the 350z UTEC at all with an Evo, you'll either have to sell it and buy one, or trade for one.
