I have already sent my ecu to dynoflash.... my car was running really rough and i thought i heard a knock in the engine before i took it out. I hope the ecu flash will help. I only have 58,000 miles on my car. I did find a ground wire coming off the e brake and a t connector on the intake manifold that said greddy! Wonder how much longer my car is going to last?
Dude...hate to say it....but buying used evos is a tricky business.....hopefully al can get you back into the ballgame running smoothly

#1 reason why i bought a brand new evo instead of used. But I would have saved alot of $$$$ though.

I wonder...was splicing required for the Vishnu Exede piggyback? That could be where all that came from.

I Agree, If i ever get rid of my evo im going to buy brand new. Things that i have found to be wrong with the car!

When i got it

Struts were shot (rust and strut oil all over the place) due to tein lowering springs and no aftermarket shocks.
$900.00 later i got megan coilovers

Installed a Autometer boost gauge and noticed 11 psi all the way to redline
Found out stock boost controller was not even hooked up! And a Greddy t splice on the manifold vacume line that was caped off.
$30.00 later got a new vacume lines for turbo with stock pills. 17-19 psi to redline

Installed my LCD cd/dvd player and found a e brake ground wire that was unhooked. Also my lower cubby under my heating and AC controls was cut up with a dremil.

Looked at exhaust and noticed the downpipe was hanging with one bolt. Also noticed that my exhaust looked like it was cut and re-welded? very crappy weld by the way. They mounted custom brakets just to hold up the stock exhaust!

$550.00 later and a trip to the hardware store i got Apexi exhuast and Kartboy hangers!

There are small things i have found that hint me to this cars no too distant failure

The cut ECU wires
A bolt was snapped off the Exhaust manifold cover HUMM what could that be from
The Greddy splice
The E brake wire
The Shifter boot and shifter looks like crap stock shift nob would not stay on
The custom brakets holding up the re-welded stock Exhaust
The Downpipe hanger bolt missing
And the cut up cubby box
Also my car lighter was unhooked and had splice connestors on it.
There was a drill hole in the firewall for amp wire to
The Tranny fluid was dark along with the transfer case and diff. little grinding into 2nd. Fixed with GL-5 sythetic fluid.
Missing the stock plastic brush gaurd under the car.

This has been my dream car FOREVER i traided off two vehicles for this. I love my car but im worried about its future!

One other thing i found out. I got this car from the FORD dealership. I know one of the people who serviced it before i got it. He said he had to replace the downpipe O2 sensor! said it garggled when he got it. When he replaced it he did not cover the inside radiator fins with cardboard. SQUISH they are all matted down now! RIGHT NEXT TO THE 02 sensor.

If you would like to take a look at it i have a slide show on my myspace account. PM me for the site.

Man...that list is brutal

If I were you I'd do one of the two suggestions:

1. Get the ecu back and sell the car as is

2. Drive as far as you have to to get to a great performance shop and have them over-haul all that stuff you mentioned........

over-wise, I agree you're on borrowed time until that thing probably hits the wall.

I would more than likely just try and sell the car.

Good luck

Damn, that sucks, I feel your pain. Went through it from my last Civic. After this Evo, no more performance cars for me. Sticking with a regular gas saving POS.

I have dumped more than $3000.00 into this car as of today. Im not sure at this point that its a good idea to sell it. Most of the stuff on that list has been fixed by me. The ECU wires are another thing! im going to get some solder and heat shrink tubing and fix them too! I wish i could fish slap the person who owned the car before me! I know the car came from Minnisota. Its a silver evo 8 with a steel grey 17 inch rota rims. Has tint all the way around! Just in case he was on this fourm. Just cross your fingers for me and hope the ECU flash helped!

I do have a warrenty on this car 3 years 36,000 miles with a 50.00 deductable for any fix including engine overhaul. Got to love a ford dealershiop with no brains. I will try and make it as stock as i can take it in and get it worked on. I know it was stupid to put more afermaket on but the stock stuff on the car at the time was not helping my car at all! So i was forced to do so.

Problem is i dont TRUST anyone around here to work on it!

Man i feel your pain.Same thing with my 03 evo. Bought it used and the guy had glow pedals, neons under the dash, crappy alarm with remote start, gauges that he ripped out and left the wires, jensen dvd player that didnt work, hooked up all the vacuum lines to the BCS wrong, fake green carbon fiber dash kit that was horrible looking, blown struts all the way around with REAL LOW springs, bulbs all blown in the dash, headlight adjustment gear is stripped out, rims look like he took steel wool to them,O2 bung for the a/f gauge he had ripped out left open, Bov mounted backwards, air dams on windows were all crooked, amp wires leading everywhere with no clips in the trunk, and finally now i ordered my accessport and looked at the ecu and theres was 2 bolts barely hanging on to that. All i can say is NEVER AGAIN!!!

I dont know if mine was as bad engine wise as yours! I have to hand it to the Evo's, they hide past mistakes really well. I made it a point to make the sales man who sold me the car sweat when looked over the car! I cant beleve i missed all this! I knew about the struts at the time of buying it thats it. We sould start up a space for abused evos from past owners!
