your friend has a bit of returning to stock in front of him. register the car in another county/state, maybe grandmas house?

How about tossing in a stock computer and having it tuned.. basically to idle.?

I think that's the route i'm going to try..

Unfortunately that is going to be your only option. It is not only going to have to idle but not throw any CEL's.

I can tell you from personal experience, you can pass obd2 with an anti fouler, a high flow cat, small cams (maybe big too) and a good tune.
{a good tune that can hold off the cel}

there is a thread where there is talk of overriding the ecu so it thinks all is well, actual use of that flash is a ways off.

automatic you need the maf, might as well use the stock air filter box.

as far as anyone knows you will not find a secret gizmo to get a standalone to pass obd2.... that is why I went back to the stock ecu.

True and not quite true. The HKS FCON which is a standalone can maintain the stock ECU to maintain compliance for OBD2. Unfortunately the "popular standalones ie. AEM, Autronic do not share that ability.

its good you corrected me, thanks, I know I didn't know that.

is it sort of like a piggy back? does it allow the ecu to throw a cel?

Nothere, Kinda taking this a little OT but.....Check out ths thread For some more detailed info. I've thought more than one about going this route and having DB tune it. One downside depending on who tunes your car is that the FCON can only be tuned by a HKS authorized tuner.

Are there any counties that don't require emissions near you? If so and you have a friend that lives in one of the counties you can "move" to his house and register the car there. I had to do it with my 240sx back in GA.

he is in Mass. they go by state emissions here unlike NV where you can get away with County. (I just moved from Vegas to Boston, so I know how that goes)

Which Autronic computer is it? Is it a plug-in Group N type or one that has a proprietary harness?
