When to tune?

I know its been asked a sh*t ton, but I can't really find an answer that I'm looking for. So I just got a stock IX and I will be adding a TBE, K&N drop in, and boost gauge, I know everyone will say to get the most out of this I need a retune. I'm coming from the Honda world and you need a chipped, modded, or even a different ECU to retune, what do you need to retune a EVO? Thanks ahead of time!! (I know its a Newb Question)

You will need a tactrix cable, wideband, laptop, ecu flash.Or you can get a e-flash for 50.00 and will save you a head ache.

So a friend of mine got his VIII tuned at UMS here in PHX and he is saying he didn't have to have any thing hooked up to his ECU, it was all done through his OBDII port. I'm coming from the Honda world and you had to have a modded ECU to retune, can you tune this way on an EVO?

Yeah you can thats the great thing about the EVO ECU. EcuFlash is free, and gives you full access to all the tables in the ecu, via the Tactrix and your OBD2 port.

you dont need a tune to see a gain but a tune will get ya about 20-40hp more. I know a guy using stock timing and fuel map with 20psi boost only a full 3" TBE made about 25hp more than stock, dyno HP was around 273HP. He got a tune and it went up to 315 HP with 22psi.
