random and infrequent 7 is expected,
persistant and regular 3's are in need of attention

If that 7 is consistent you need to address it. the IX pulls timing at even 1 count of knock, but it's not dangerous ... it'll just pull a degree of timing for a moment.

When i tune I can accept a few 1's in the log, but 2's and 3's are not acceptable for me.

Post up your log if you can. What was around the 7? 6's and 5's and so on? I had the same problem a few years back. Surprisingly (to me at least) 1 octane point makes a huge difference in tuning. Where I had 0's and a few 1's on 94 octane I had 6's on 93.

I'm sure it does. Sooner or later we'll all probably be forced into the same thing. What is it that restricts the west coast from 93? Is it emmissions or something else?

I have... As soon as they make it available in my neck of the woods, gonna make the switch! Although I believe I have read you need to upgrade Injectors to 1000cc's ! Its starting to grow in Cali, but more in NorCal. I think Arnold is trying to make it more available in SoCal... We'll see... 91 FTL

Hmmmm I 'll post the logs when I can. 7 is just very quickly and is surrounded by 5's and 3's. Glad to hear its not a horrible occurance.

Turned boost down a point or so and the knock is gone.

well, wouldn't the knock also depend where the most load is present?
i mean, if the car is knocking 3 points at 3500rpms, will that be dangerous?

Knock has a higher probability of causing failure at higher RPM. You can't use the term "load" around here too loosely since it's both a variable the ECU uses and a measure of how hard the engine is working.

So, your example ... 3 counts isn't going to break anything. But, if you were to compare 8 counts at 3500 at cruise and 8 counts at 7000 and 21 psi, the high RPM, high boost knock occurrence is a much larger issue.

I get worried at 3, when it's constant.
