Please help diagnose my friends IX

Evo IXMod list. Aquamist Alchy kit, full exhaust, MBC., stock snail., cossie 272 cams.

Ill start by saying that his car ran fine until he started the cam install. On his first attempt, they stripped a bolt and had to put everything back together until they could find a replacement. At that point, under full boost the car would act like it was misfiring, but was fine at cruise. We checked plugs etc and all was well. Infact after I put the plugs back in it seemed to lessen the "missing" issue. Well, now the new cams are in, and the "missing" issue doesn't seem to be there anymore. He has cossie cam, 272's. Now when we went to retune it, I have on average 5 counts of knock from spool up to 2 counts at redline. No matter what I do with the fuel map, I can never seem to eliminate the knock. I even tried a stock timing map, and lowering the boost a lot. I suspect something is wrong. I've tuned several cammed cars without issue. This one has me scratching my head though. Can anyone give me some advice?

is the car going lean on tip in?

we have had cams create valvetrain noise to register as knock, but thats aggressive cams, not 272's....

hmm

you will have to post some logs...

is there a chance you didnt seat the intake properly on the cam gear ? that can be a pain sometimes.

No, its not overly lean on tip in at all. His meth sprays at about 10 psi and the afr at tip in is 11.7 ish.

I wasn't actually there for the cam install. A friend of mine did it, hes done about 20 evo cam installs and I've watched him before. He's very careful, but like I said, I wasn't there.
