your stuck w/ windows. I dont think the tuning software works with Mac/Linux. Just get something small with lots of ram, and stick with ECUFlash 1.29a and you should be good.

its honestly personal preference, if this is strictly a tuning computer then buy the cheapest one, you don't really need anything special, all you'd be doing is running a logging software and flashing program. Now if you're looking for the best laptop on the computer for tuning/personal use then go to best buy and buy the one with the price of 4 digits

I'd recommend something small. I have a 15in screen and my laptop weighs about 6lbs, and its a bit on the heavy side. Its too cumbersome to use in a car. I'm planning on getting an asus EEE (9/10/11 in screens) and weigh maybe a pound or 2.

I have a HP pavilion(?) with vista. Its like 5 pounds and small enough to slip under the passenger seat when not in use.The only problem i had was adding patches.I had to disable the administrator promp for some reason then everything was ok.

P.S. Vista FTL!!!

I always use the newest version of ECUflash and it works well. In fact you need something > 1.35 to edit the periphery by individual bits.

I have Vista and no problems with tuning. Just have to figure out where the app data folder is to open logs. The computer just has to be not bogged down with spyware or other programs. Even an old school pentium II worked fine for logging and flashing, so the new computers are 10X more powerful than necessary.

And I would suggest getting http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...558&CatId=3444
its 2.1 lbs, has windows and 3USB, and only costs $300. Everythign you could want in a tuning laptop. The only better option woudl be to get one with a SSD, so that the thrashing around while tuning couldn't damage the drive. But I have no personal experience with those hard drives. If this had been for sale when I was looking for a laptop i would have jumped on it in an instant.

I've been using a Dell Inspiron for the last 4 years and it has stood the test of time.

I was using my old vaio 15.4 which was HUGE and slow!

Now i got myself a MSI Wind 10 inch 1.6 processor, 2gb ram (added 1gb later on) 80gb hardisk ... windows xp .. $450 or so..

I highly recommened going with a smaller laptop .. i wish i got it earlier .. im also using it for light travel.
