Tuning gear?

Suffice to say, I'm trying to open my car world to tuning my own ride. Luckily, I have a good friend of mine who data logs and tunes his own speed6 to teach me.

I've done a search, and found a million and one threads on the subject, which simply confuse me. So, sorry for the noob question in advance.

I need a data logger and tune program so I can start doing this stuff myself. Does anyone have any recommendations for a tried and true set up?

I know I need a laptop, that's a given. But as far as the data logger like a Dash Hawk (which isn't compatible with the evo's) and software to go with it, what do I need? What are they called and where can I find them?

Thanks

evoscan for logging software, tactrix cable to log what your car is doing, ecu flash to make changes to fuel, timing, etc. a wide band (aem uego, zeitronix, lc-1), a lap top and a little bit of courage to actually make that first flash good luck

ecu flash is free and if you dont wanna spend the money on evoscan, you can get mitsulogger which is also free. Also if you buy the zeitronix or inovative motorsports lc-1 you get free logging software as well.
